Family doctor or pediatrician?

Hi Moms,

Does anyone take their baby to a family doctor for well baby checkups, as opposed to a pediatrician? What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

I don't take them to see a doctor unless there is an issue, because that prevents someone who is actually sick from receiving care.

When we do go I will not use a pediatrician though, and I've been happy with the care provided by the family doctor.

I do a pediatrician for the first few years and then a family doctor after.

Thanks :) Should I contact the pediatrician whom I selected for my baby before delivery in order to find out the visit schedule (when to see the dr)? Otherwise, how will I know?

Pediatrician until they have all their vaccines then family doctor.

I chose a pediatrician & I met with him while I was pregnant to get to know his schedule & his specific training. I chose my pedi based on my insurance & the fact that he did his residency at a big Children's hosp in my city.

Absolutly. You can interview pediatricians while pregnant to find one you like.

family Dr. He sees the same one I've been seeing since I was 6 and if he's busy I take ds to the pedi in his office. But this Dr. Is the best around hands down. Any time ds needs a referral for anything all I have to do is call and he refers him or writes out a Rx for stuff like his therapies etc. I don't have to waste his or my time to go in for a referral when he can be seeing sick kids and I can be working.
