How do you know when it's allergies versus just a cold?

My daughter has had a persistent runny nose for like 3 weeks but no cough, sneeze or fever but we do have a flowering tree in our yard. Neither my husband or I have allergies to pollen or anything similar. We also have a dog. Would you suspect allergies or just a cold?

If the secretions are clear, it's just allergies.

It sounds like allergies to me. My son had seasonal allergies from about 2-5 years old. Last year he was ok and so far ok this year. I'm hoping he's growing out of them.

I was told that if you feel fine but have a runny now and such, then it's allergies. If you feel crappy, especially at the beginning, it's a cold.

You  can check him out with the pediatrician. My son had the same symtopms and it turned out to be an ear infection where there were some fluids in them. He was put on Amoxocilan for 10 days and the symptoms whent away. Either way, just speak to the doctor about it if you feel the need to.

Sounds like allergies. I have horrible allergies and 2 of my 3 girls do as well. Though my youngest seems to have a runny nose more than she doesn't. Even in non-allergy months.
