I have a 5 week old boy and he keeps falling asleep while eating then waking up like 10 minutes later screaming for the bottle. I try giving him his binky but he spits it out. Sometimes he takes it thou. I don't know what to do. He has nursed on the same 4oz bottle for like an hour. Also he sleeps with his eyes open sometimes...should I be worried??  Thanks!! Angel

Both my boys did that too and it's totally normal (at least I think it is!).  I remember just rubbing their cheek and talking to them enough to wake them up and kept feeding.  Sometime I had to do it 10 times but eventually they'd get fed.  I hope it helps.

I had the same problem while feeding my twins.  Here are a few things I tried until they woke up and usually I would have to do it over and over - rubbing their head, tickling their side and/or feet, rubbing a cold rag on their cheek (I know it sounds mean, but they gotta eat), instead of holding them in the crook of your arm close to your body hold him out in front of you with his head in your hand and bottom resting on your lap.  The last one tended to work the best for us, but sometimes we'd still have to do the other things.  Also, burping can help to wake them up.  The good news is he'll grow out of it.  I rarely have to wake them up during feedings now.

My daughter did the same thing. Like the other posts have already recommended, try stoking his cheek, head, feet or sides. Just keep trying, mine grew out of it in no time!

my dd nursed, so breastfed babies are always falling asleep before they are done eating!  I would have a cold (not icey, but just tap water) washcloth next to me and I would rub it on her toes to keep her eating

My daughter did that ALOT.  Her doctor told us when shes ready to eat or if she falls asleep eating to totally undress her to her diaper.  it helped a lil bit.  But most of the time i would have to wake her until shes finished.  A baby sleeps better on a full tummy.
