We asked friends for recommendations. We decided to go with a larger practice for the variety of drs. There are two that I absolutely love. I'm trying a 3rd for DD#2 and if I like her, it will give me more flexibility w/ appointments.

Well, the pediatrician we have now I've had since my second son was a baby, so about 10yrs now. He's really great and informative. I always looked for one in my health insurance list of doctors. On an initial visit I asked a lot of questions. I saw how the office looked, how the staff's attitudes were, how efficient everything was. If I didn't like it I looked for a different one. I also am glad that they have an after hours/weekend 24hr nurseline....just in case. They answered questions about the kids if they got sick during non business hours and when to take them to urgent care or ER.

We found our first pediatrician through the hospital we had our son at when we toured it a couple of months before he was born.  We found our second pediatrician by calling a local referral line since we moved and were unfamiliar with the area.  Both turned out great, and in fact our new pediatrician is the same as a friend of mine and is great!  I've always heard to ask other moms, but sometimes you don't know any!

My husband and I visited several pediatricians while I was pregnant.  A lot of them in our area have special appointment for pregnant couples interviewing doctors.  I went with the doc that had a walk-in hour.  Every weekday between 8 and 9 am we can walk in without an appointment.  Very convenient.

We were new to this area, so i didnt even know where to start.  I asked my dr, the hospital where i had my son and had talked with a few neighbors.  We picked a practice that had several drs and i am so glad we did.  They have been wonderful from day one.  They take the time to build a relationship with you and the child.  And i have never felt rushed through the appointment because they have another one behind me.

Our girls Dr.'s office is just minutes from out house. When they first opened we went in to talk to them and I just adore him now. The office has grown so much that with in the last couple of months they have had to bring in a new Dr. we like her too.

This is funny.

I had been going to the doctor's office in town and had good and bad experiences with the different doctors there.  One doctor, though, I reaIIy Iiked.  He was sort of befuddIed haIf the time, sort of an absent minded professor sorta thing, but he was reaIIy professionaI and I feIt very comfortabIe with him.  I was getting ready to go on vacation and went to see him about giving me something for a puIIed muscIe in my back, and possibIy a vaIium for the fIight.  He toId me that he couIdn't give me a vaIium, because it was dangerous in pregnancy.  I toId him that I wasn't pregnant.  He says, 'oh, right.  what was I thinking?  WeII, why don't you take a benadryI and sIeep the whoIe way, since benadryI is safe during pregnancy.'  I reminded him again that I wasn't pregnant.  He Iaughs at himseIf, then teIIs me that he'II give me a scrip for some vicadin, since vicadin is safe to take during pregnancy.  I think I Iaughed, took the prescription, and Ieft.  Went on vacation, had a great time, sorta fIipped out and started crying in the casino when I kept Iosing at sIots.  Came home with a stomach fIu... you see where I'm going with this, right?  Yeah... I was pregnant.  When I went to see him, I was Iike MAYBE 2 weeks pregnant. So I caIIed him to ask him to refer me to a pediatrician.  He teIIs me that he got into famiIy medicine because he Ioved chiIdren and that he had the most experience of aII the doctors in the practice with chiIdren, oh wait, that's not reaIIy true and I shouIdn't say that, but I reaIIy want to be your baby's physician.

So yeah, he's been our famiIy doctor ever since.  He takes great care of aII of us.  One of my girIfriends has started bringing her famiIy to see him even though it's aImost an hour drive for her.  My suggestion is that if you find a doctor you Iike, hang on to them for dear Iife.  Having a doctor who knows us and cares for our whoIe famiIy is not onIy convenient, it's very reassuring.

You don't HAVE to go on base.  I'm an AF wife and I don't go on base and I don't take the baby on base.  My son's ped. is on the TriCare Prime list of approved docs.  You can go off base to a doctor of your choice!
