How?

My doctor told me my 5 month old is dehydrated and that I should give him some water to drink. I didn't want to at first, but my hubby says he hasn't pooed or peed all the time i was at work. So I was just wondering how do I prepare it. Do I boil it? Or just give it straight from the faucet? I have a waterfilter on it. I'm breastfeeding and never thought I'd have to give him water, but since he hasn't had a bowel movement or urination in the last 6 hours I think I should.

I used to just give my daughter bottled water in her bottle. She actually REALLY liked it. According to the doctor she was almost drinking TOO much water.

So my filtered tap water would be ok? How old was she when you started her on water?

Also with the pooping problem you can get some baby apple juice and delude it with water (about half and half). Give it to him in his bottle and it should help him have a bowel movement.

My dd hated water (bottled) so the dr said I could mix it 50% water and 50% juice.  She liked it that way.

By 5 months she was drinking water. Maybe even a little earlier. Yes the filtered water will be fine. We didn't have a filter at the time so we had to buy her bottled water. At Target they sell water in the baby isle. I don't know if it is anything special.

Well it's wierd that she hasnt peed, but it's normal for her not to poop. Breastfed babies can go 10 days without pooping. Be careful not to give her TOO much water, but she shouldnt be dehydrated if she's breastfeeding normal?

I dont think it's necessary to boil the water or anything. I usually put Anabelle's through a purifier, but sometimes just give it straight from the tap. I give it to her in a sippy, which I have to help her with. You could give it to your baby in a bottle or from a syringe.

I'm a single, 18 year old, christian, breastfeeding, baby-wearing, co-sleeping, cloth-diapering, vax-delaying, stay-at-home, non-cry-it-out mama to my little miss Anabelle Mae, and I'm so proud of it!

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. I always thought you had to wait till they were one year old to start water. I don't know why. LOL
