Eye Specialist

We had to take Abby to an eye specialist who says that her right eye is wandering.  He says her vision is fine but that it needs to be fixed soon so that her eyes don't get used to not working together.  We go back in 6 weeks to make sure it hasn't corrected itself.  If not then we will have to have surgery.  I was very surprised.  I never in a million years thought they would do surgery so young.   I am now past the freak out and just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.  Everything I have found so far on the net says that it is normal procedure but doesn't say an age to perform it.

We just took our 2yo to an eye specialist two weeks ago for the same reason, only BOTH of her eyes wander.  (Only when she's tired or has to focus on far away objects.)  The dr told us to put a patch on one eye for one hour a day, then switch the patch to the other eye the next day.  We have to do this for two months until our next appt.  If it's not better, the dr is going to try a certain type of glasses.  If that doesn't work, then we may have to consider surgery as well.  I am hoping it doesn't come to that though.  And my daughter's vision is fine too!  I think it's just the muscle in her eyes that is causing this.  Hopefully the patch will help!!  Good luck to you!

Yah...I'd go get a second opinion myself. Many docs are quick to schedule surgery b/c it's more expensive and will most likely take care of a problem, though it IS surgery. I'd want some kind of helpful therapy (like the patch as the other poster said) before even thinking about surgery. JMO.
