Going into labor in the middle of the night....
So, I'm thinking/hoping I'll be going into labor soon but, I'm not all that familiar with the process of what you're supposed to do when it happens. I'm assuming, you're supposed to call the doctor. But what if it's after hours? Do you just go to the hospital? Basically, what do you do when you go into labor?

Well have a bag packed with clothes in it for you clothes to wear home from the hospital really keep in mind your mat. pants will pry be more comfy most women aren't able to fit into there regular pants right away. take the diaper bag with you, as for the doctor alot of times you call the hospital let them know you are on your way and the hospital will call your doctor, but to make sure I would ask your doctor how you are suppose to do it.
I am 9 days away from my due date. I asked my DR last week and he said to call his office's answering service 1st and leave a # I can be called back at (my cell #) the head to L&D. If I don't get a call back w/i 30 minutes call again. L&D will also make the call once I have been admitted. Check with your DR.
I would be talking to your caretaker about this immediately. Have you had any support/help for this pregnancy? It doesn't sound like it....

This is what i did...
I had my first painful contratction at 11pm waited till i had another then told my mom. I was only 17....I stayed int the room with her and we timed my contractions. After an hour she called L&D they said to come in. I said lets wait one more hour bcuz the hospital is about an hour away and we were gonna have to borrow our neighbors car cause my sis worked thrid shift and she had the car. Well they were still there an hour later so i woke up dh and we left for the hospital. I got there at 245am and the admittied me 6am adn they called my doc for me. That was my middle of the night labor story for you....
but my doc told me to go to the hospital he never said call him so i never did.
I woke up in labor! I wasn't sure it was LOL! I took a shower and had a snack, all the while timing my contractions. Now my contractions DID NOT hurt but were coming every 3 minutes. When they started coming every 2 mintues, I woke up the hubs. Who FREAKED out!!!! We called the drs after office number and started to the hospital. My contractions were 1 to 2 min apart but still didn't hurt when I got to the hospital at 3am.
On the long walk from the parking garage to Labor and Delivery, my hubs was teasing me that we will just be going home in an hour and I interupted his sleep LOL
My dr actually called us back while we were on the way to the hospital, and told me she would meet us there.
I was in my bed by 3:05, and my water broke at 3:15am! My contractions didn't hurt til my water broke!
I delivered my Son at 7:30am!!!!!
Turns out my dr was actually already at the hospital, she had just finished an emergency c section!
I wouldn't call until your contractions are 4-5 minutes apart, and there is always someone in Labor & Delivery. WIth my first, I wated 12 hours before I went in and and with my second I waited 6 hours. It's really not a big rush like you see on TV. If you do wake with contractions, just try to sleep as much as you can as you'll regret not getting that rest! I regretted staying up waiting for contractions to start with my second because my water broke first. You might have enough time to wait until normal morning hours depending on when everything starts. I would never go in to the hospital right when they start! You're in for a long boring stay if you do!
I already have my bag packed with everything except clothes because I can't decide what to take. The temperature is changing everyday and so one day it may feel ok for shorts and the next be a little on the cool side. If you really do leave the hospital looking 6 months, I have a couple of pairs of pants that just stopped fitting yesterday. Both my bag with all my hygeine stuff and baby book and all that and the diaper bag are already in the car, ready to go. We had the carseat installed a few weeks ago at the fire station. Everything is ready except knowing who to call. :)

With my first, I had my first contraction @ 5am. I waited at home until they were 5 mins apart and all that stuff they tell u to do. then I just went into the hospital. With my boys, they were both middle of the night babies.... I just went into the hospital, they call the doctor from the nurses station.
Tamara.... 26, mom of 3 (05/03, 03/06, 04/07) & 1 angel (04/05)... married to James since October 2001.
Um. I guess other than my doctor and DH, no, not really. But DH doesn't know anything about pregnancy or anything and I see different doctors at my office and none of them really talk about anything unless I ask. And, there are probably a million and one things I could be asking about and just don't think of them.

Well I went in labor on my own with my second child I just knew it was real, so I showered told DH to do the same called my mom who lived downstairs from stairs from us and brought her our DD after I packed her bag. I ten went straigth to labor and delivery ( I have a womens hospital) so they have a triage just for us and they checked me out called my doctor and admitted me. If this is your first I would ask the doctor if he/she prefers you to call prior to heading in to the hospital, most just want you to get checked if you are contracting for a certain time period,. Good Luck!!
