my mom and 2 sisters are drving from where we live(northern california) up to the very top of oregon...its 664 miles and takes roughly 10 hours...im 34 weeks along and havent asked my doctor yet i go on the 10th so i will ask then if its ok but how many of you have traveled late in pregnancy and what were the reasons your doctors said no? im sure my doc will say no but im still curious...thanks
I went to Tennessee (10 hours away) but I wasn't that far along. I was told I could go but just make sure I got out of the car often to stretch my legs. I have heard they have told Moms no though because they could go into labor and then they will be far away from the hospital and doctor. I actually heard of a girl who wasn't allowed to go to work because it was in a different county! Good luck :)
For what I've read only if you have problems you shouldn't travel too far, and the other concern is if you don't have hospitals nearby, but if you feel good I don't think you'll have any problems, maybe ask a midwife or nurse practicioner for any advice or your doctor of course.
Im going on a 2.5 hr train ride to boston on monday...but thats as far as I dare to go.
I went 7 hours to my parents' house for my baby shower when I was 32 weeks pregnant... just make sure you get out and move your legs every couple of hours!
Well this Saturday I am going to a wedding 3 hours away overnight and I'll be just about 38 weeks pregnant. I'm contracting so I am really crossing my fingers that nothing happens and that we have to leave and high tail it to the hospital. I would not like to spend 3 hours in labor in the car with the risk of delivering in my husband's car but my husband is in the wedding so we have to go....unless she comes before that. My midwife doesn't want me going but we are going anyway.
Anyway.....they tell you not to travel after 36 weeks because of the risk of early labor and being too far from the hospital. You should be fine since you are only 34 weeks but make sure you get out often to walk around...this will help to avoid any potential blood clots. Good luck and have fun!
i was 8 months pregnant and went from the middle of New Mexico to Wyoming/Utah to see my dad in the hospital when he had a major heart attack..i did not ask my doc i told her i was going and wut did i need to travel safely. she said stop often to get out of the car to stretch ur legs so u dont get blood clots in ur legs. and take a copy of ur chart incase u go into labor and have to go to a hospital so they know wut is going on with u..but other than that its fine..
i also did the same trip at 7/8months with my second just to visit my dad for my sons birthday
