Hi ladies, just an update...
Yesterday morning, at my appointment with the specialist, he recommended I don't wait another day for a cerclage (stitch in my cervix to help prevent pre-term labor). My cervix was tunneling (beginning to efface) and was only 15 mm long (the low side of "normal" is 30mm).
There were definitely a few options (one of which just being bedrest) but he said he was almost 98% sure if I didn't have the cerclage we'd lose her and she isnt old enough to survive yet. So we did it and both came through it just fine!!! We're now home and are told there is an 80% chance with the cerclage to make it past 28 weeks... but they all seem optimistic we'll make it to 36 or 38. :)
I feel so relieved and utterly grateful our doctor caught this early. The doctor yesterday called it "a divine providence" that this was ccaught early, most likely due to the fact her head was so low at the 20 week ultrasound and they were trying to get a pic of her brain. Otherwise the ultrasound yesterday showed that she is developing perfectly, other than perhaps a minor club foot (which my dr assures me can be totally cured after birth if it is in fact club and not just double jointed).
Have a good weekend :) I'm now on modified bed rest until further notice so I'll be around.
Hope all goes well for you and the baby! I too have preterm labor and have a history of it so the doc and I are considering a cerclage due to my last one being born at 30 weeks and all. Good Luck!
Baby Adam due March 30th 2010!
I love your positive attitude, too many moms around here would complain and whine about complications. Staypositive, I wish you and your baby a happy and healthy rest of the pregnancy!
im telling ya having a cerclage is like armor. makes you feel so much safer. i hope you and baby are alright. i got mine and 14 weeks and im 18 weeks now and so far me and her are doing just fine.
