So Friday night I had contractions for about 5 hours then come saturday they were on for an hour off for an hour, So I decided I would try the techniques everyone suggests to get labor going. Rasberry Tea, Sex, Walking, Sex, Pressure points and I thought for sure something would make theses contractions more regular.... and NOTHING if anything they have made everything less frequent. What else can I do? Im 37 almost 38 weeks and my contractions are still very on and off.
Could these contractions be braxton hicks? If not, I was told to stimulate my nipples, they release some hormone (cant think of the name) that can help bring on contractions. But nothing worked on me either, its pretty much just a waiting game. But maybe trying stimulating the nipples plus all the rest of what ur doing, maybe it'll help.
I wasnt big with excercising with my first however, I did take Evening primrose oil... I started at 37 weeks because I was told it would take awhile however I went into labor at 38 weeks..... Im not sure if its coincidence but, I totally plan on taking it again.... lol
Give yourself TIME!! I know it is very hard. I was crazy to see my baby early and even tried castor oil... TWICE. Don't do that. I promise it doesn't work, and isn't worth it!!!
I thought I was ready at 39 weeks when I finally went into labor and my dd had to stay in the hospital an extra couple of days because of jaundice. It is SOOOO much worse to have the baby and NOT be able to take it home, than to wait an extra couple of days.
The best things you can do (that actually work!!!) is to walk (30 minutes, decent pace) and to have sex (the semen is what helps prepare your cervix). If you do that, it should put you into labor as soon as you are ready.
37 weeks may be "full term" but 42 weeks is just as normal and full term. Some babies need the extra time.
Raspberry leaf tea only works if you take it a couple of times a day consistantly. One cup one day doesn't push you into labor... it more slowly conditions your cervix to get ready and recouperate from labor.
Good luck! I know that last bit is the hardest, but soon enough the baby will be here and you will think fondly of your pregnancy time.
