HELP!!! Bladder Infection at 26 weeks *update in Red*
Anyone else dealing with bladder infections?
Last Thursday night, I started having extreme abdominal pain out of no where. It was so bad, I was sobbing and even vomiting. So when we called the on call doctor, they told me to go to triage. The first thought from the symtoms was that I was having a gall bladder attack, as we know I have stones, we are trying to hold off operating until after baby is born.
Well, going off bloodwork, it wasn't my gall bladder, but from the urine test, they found the start of a bladder infection, so gave me antibiotics and sent me home.
Well, I finished the meds on Tuesday night. Wednesday morning, I woke up still feeling very itching, raw and it burned to urinate. So I called the doctor office twice, but no one ever got back to me. Later that day I started having noticable contractions. So I called the on call doctor and he ofcourse told me to go to triage. He wasn't sure if maybe still infection and causing spasms or if I was having true contractions. So I went back to the hospital, they only picked up a couple of the contractions on the monitor, but they weren't strong. They did find in my urine that the infection got worse, so gave me a stronger antibiotic and again sent me home.
I have been on this 5 day med since yesterday morning, and I'm not feeling better down there yet.. is that normal? Anyone else going through this issue?
I am unsure how much more of this pregnancy I can take. I am so ready to be done, and I have forever to still go (it seems). I have had a bad pregnancy. Dealt with a severe case of hyperemesis until I was 23 weeks along. Causing me to be dehydrated a lot and 18 hospital visits, some turned into lengthy stays. I lost 41 pounds. They did a PICC line and TPN where I did gain 9 pounds, but I got sick and they took it out and I lost 5 of those pounds. And in the last 4 weeks, I haven't gained anything. Now I have to deal with a stupid uncomfortable bladder infection... Wondering what is next? Preterm labor and delivery? Am I gonna have a healthy baby, Is he gonna go full term?? All these thoughts going through my head now.
Sorry for such a long post that turned into more than just my original question.. I tend to babble as these things just fly through my head all day long everyday.
Thanks for reading and for any possible advice.
*UPDATE*
I have today left on the new med, and I'm still irritated, raw and itchie down there.. Shouldn't the meds have given me relief by now??? I'm gonna try to make it through today since I have today left, but is anyone else having constant bladder infections?? I don't know how to make the itching go away without actually itching it and making it feel more irritated. It is making me absolutely CRAZY!!!!
I haven't had to deal with that but I do hope it gets better for you!! My last pregnacy was super long, even though I delivered at 33 weeks, I was really dehydrated my first trimester and was in the hospital a few times for it, and was admitted at 29 weeks because I had mono-mono twins. I hope you start feeling better and the rest of the pregnancy goes a lot smoother!!
I hope you feel better soon, I had recurring bladder infections with my youngest dd and recurring kidney infections with my oldest dd so I know how it feels, I have to ask, do you have a yeast infection? It is commen with strong antibiotics to get a yeast infection and if thats not treated as well than your infection that is getting treated could get worse, also bladder infections and kidney infections can cause preterm labor which is probably the reason they keep sending you to triage, I really hope you start to feel better soon and that this pregnancy ends better than it started.
I'm honestly not sure that they checked for yeast infection. But all I know is the meds must not have worked again, as I'm still itchy, irritated down there, horrible lower backache and my urine is still cloudy.
it is super annoying and I just want it to go away. It kind of made me mad, as we went to the triage the other night, for what we are assuming was a gall bladder attack, I told them that I had a reaccuring bladder infection, that I didn't feel cleared up. They never checked my urine or did any blood work to decide what caused me to go into severe pain for 4 hours. Once the pain went away on its own and the fact that I wasn't having baby contractions, they sent me on my way.
Now if your patient tells you she has been dealing with a bladder infection and doesn't feel it is gone, wouldn't you be checking into that. As it can cause preterm labor and get worse if not treated.. I guess that is what I get for going to the sister hospital to the one I'm supposed to go to, only because it was closer and I was in really really bad pain and couldn't make it for a 45 minute drive.
I would probably try to get checked by your ob, also have them test you for a kidney infection, if your bladder infection isn't gone with the two different medications than it is possible that the bladder infection has spread into your kidneys, I would also have your doc check you for a yeast infection as well, if you have to go back to the triage than demand they test you for a bladder infection a kidney infection and a yeast infection. Hope you get some releif soon, I know these are not fun at all and I hope you can get this all taken care of. Keep me updated.
I ended up in the hospital with a Kidney Infection at 20 weeks. I had no real prior symptoms except when I went to the bathroom and my urine was pink from all the blood...oh and the back ache. I was admitted to the hospital for 48 hours and given fluids and IV antibiotics then sent home with five days of antibiotics. After I was finished with the antibiotics my OB ran a urine culture to make sure the infection was gone. Now because once you've had 1 while pregnant you are likely to get another she has me on a low grade antibiotic through the rest of my pregnancy for prevention and we do urine cultures at ever appointment now. I was worried about having to take antibiotics for so long but the "benefit outways the risk" also I have and OB/GYN in the family but is across the country... he is my second opinion on EVERYTHING and he agrees with and is impressed with the care I've been getting... also, I would look into the yeast infection... make sure your eating yogurt too help kill the yeast. I hope you feel better soon... its a drag
Every time I get pregnant it seems I have infections my whole pregnancy. Ugh! I've never had horribly bad ones but I feel like I take meds for 9 months for nothing-lol! Unfortunately this last one had some kind of bacteria in it and now they're saying that they want me to have an IV when I'm in labor and giving birth...not too thrilled about that one. But I sympahtize! Hang in there! It really will get better! Give the meds a few days and if they're not working call up the doctor! The one I just got over with made me go crazy because it made me itch so bad and it took the meds about a week to clear it all up.

Well after the last med not working, I went back to the doctor, to find that the bladder infection was still getting worse instead of better and it also caused me to get a yeast infection. So now I'm on a stronger antibiotic and that stupid crap for the yeast infection.
I am not allowed to have yogurt, because it causes problems with my gallbladder. I have a whole list of things I'm not allowed to eat because it ends up causing a really bad attack and I end up in the hospital, as we can't take chances. The pain is just like labor, and they are already concerend with preterm labor with everything I have been through.
I'm hoping this med works and that both infections go away, because it is just making me more crazy, and also giving me more meds to deal with. I'm on enough pills throughout the day already just so I can keep food down on my own instead of getting another picc line and doing tpn treatments again. Looking forward to Thanksgiving, as I enter the 3rd trimester and this pregnancy will be closer to be over! I want some normalcy of my body back, I'm tired of feeling like absolute crap!
Thanks for all your responses and words of advice, it means a lot!
