I had no idea you could opt out of it.  Good luck mama!

You should see if you can eat something other than the yucky syrup they make you drink.  My midwife has you eat this before your test:

50 Gram Carb Breakfast:

This diet has been adapted from the College Heights OB/Gyn Professional Corp and is done between 24 and 28 weeks gestation. This two-hour post meal blood test is use to find out precisely how your body handles sugar.
In order for the test to be accurate and meaningful, you will need to eat the following foods listed. A blood test needs to be taken 1 hour after you have eaten this meal.

Please eat all the foods in the amounts listed:

• 4 ounces unsweetened juice (orange, grapefruit or apple)
• 2 eggs (scrambled, poached or boiled)
• 2 slices of whole wheat toast with butter

• 8 ounces low-fat milk (1-2%)

what is this test you speak of? Does everyone have to take it? What all does it entail?

I was surprised when I did the glucose test with my last pregnacy. The sugar drink wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. To me it just tasted like flat syrupy soda. It just made me want to drink some water! The latest recommendation is to do the test in the first trimester also, so they can catch GD sooner. It doesn't always show up that soon in many women though, but it's a good idea for some. I took mine after my first appt and passed, but am still taking it next week (27 weeks) to be sure GD hasn't developed since then. At least it's only a hour before you get to drink water!

I've taken this test with all of my pregnancies.I always fail the one hour , but have always passed the 3-hour test.  I have found that the best drink is the lemon lime. It's not as sweet tasting as the others , but it does have a slight bitter taste .

The first three I passed , no problems. I thought about opting out of the testing this time but am glad I did not. I failed the 1 hour and the 3 hour ... when we say failed , I really failed the test.

Even though I have always been careful with what I eat ( There's family history of Diabetes) I found that even my careful food choices were not enough to keep my glucose within a normal range during this pregnancy.  I went to a nutritionist , on my own , to help me make even better choices and so far I am managing things with diet alone.... however , my doc had me fill a RX just in case I find that my diet is no longer effective.

I opted out this pregnancy only because I had gd with my first pregnancy and fully expected to have it again this pregnancy.  I just started testing my sugar levels after each meal.
