I always thought that for my first bith i would do anything (within reason) to have a birth at a birthing center. Im training to be nurse so i can become a cnm. Well i got pregnant and come to find out there are no birthing centers on the eastern shore. None. ive asked my doc he said no. because of being on the easter shore we have a greater risk of infection...um how. so home births wont happen and birthing centers dont come here. not sure why but they wont. did i get wrong information or is this right. the nearest bc is in baltimore. that 2hs from me i really cant drive 2hs in labor as much as id like too. so tell me if im wrong please id love to be
sorry I don't know, here is a bump for you.

Bethesda Maternity Center, Bethesda, MD
Birth Care, Alexandria, VA
Unfortunately, I don't know if any of these are even close to you, but its all I'm seeing for the eastern shore (or even slightly close to it).
I don't know where you are exactly but I found this birth center in Annapolis. http://www.bayareamidwifery.com/
I've never heard of the greater risk of infection. It sounds fishy to me. Question about the homebirth part, do you mean they don't happen because of the risk of infection or that you're not comfortable with them? Because if you go to http://birthpartners.com/ there is a whole list of homebirth midwives for Maryland. If you are interested in a homebirth and want to share what area your in I'd be more than happy to try and help you find a midwife. I'll also do some digging on the infection rate. Honestly sounds like a dr.'s scare tatics to keep a patient.
About the birthing center I don't know- but NOONE can STOP you from having a home birth. Now, depending on your pregnancy being high risk or not it may be a pretty bad idea, but if you're doing well and don't have any complications you can easily have your baby at home. Sounds like your Dr is just trying to have his way, which he (emphasis on) THINKS is better for you. I personally don't think I would be comfortable having my baby at home, I like having all the technology around to make sure things are going well, but my last labor the Dr's didn't listen to me(when I ended up being right!), so I Completely understand why some ladies prefer to do it at home at their own pace. Best of luck!
