I am pregnant with my second child and I don't remember things being so complicated with him!!
Right now I am about 31 weeks and I have to go back to the doctor this week to retest my glucose levels. Apparently they were REALLY high.. I am nervous about the test and afraid that they are going to tell me that I have gestational diabetes. On top of all that, no matter how much water I drink I am still dehydrated!! She thinks that I may be developing a bladder or kidney infection and are in the process of running that test as well.
I am so frustrated and I don't know what to do. Like I said, with my son I didn't have any of these problems!!
If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.
Hi,
I am 30 weeks pregnant and I have gestational diabetes. During my pregnancies with my daughters, I didn't have it. They told me that my blood sugar was really high when I was almost 3 months pregnant. I had to do the 3 hour glucose test and I felt horrible the entire time. This pregnancy with my son is nothing like what I went through with my daughters. When they told me that I had gestational diabetes, I cried for 30 minutes because I knew that the risks are much greater. Before I found out that I had gestational diabetes, I was always drinking a lot of water because I seemed to be extremely thirsty. The doctors always say that every pregnancy is different and this one is. If your tests come back and you do have gestational diabetes, they will tell you all the things you need to do. I hope everything works out for you!
this is my second pregnancy with GD and my last lil one was born healthy as can be at 7lbs and 6oz and I took insuline and this pregnancy I didnt even get tested I am now Diabetic I take 2 insulins and everything is going great just watch what you eat and how much eat protien and veggies cut out starches and gravey and candy limit juice and milk Water is your best friend if you have any question I will be here . I live it every day it seems this lil one seems to be bigger then the last one though I find out more Dec 2nd last appt they said he was 1pound ahead of schedule but they wernt worried good luck hun
I had GD with my last pregnancy, and I was so scared when they told me that I had it. But it really ended up not being as bad as I had pictured it. I stayed on the diet and excercised about 20 minutes a day (did 10 in the morning and 10 in the evening), and I was able to control it. In fact, that was probably my best pregnancy! Let me know if you need anything! Hang in there and just remember that the moment you hold that little baby in your arms, you won't even remember all these tests!
I think I've seen doctors and nurses and hospital personnel enough to where I should have a degree in it by now lol!
First off, I had insurance that didn't have maternity coverage (for the state I was in), but had it for a handful of other states. I got the insurance 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant lol. It was costing me around 150 a month for that crappy insurance. Easy to get it and took an hour trying to hunt someone down on a phone (because you know computers talk to you now and not a real person) just to get off the insurance. Once that was done, I applied for Medicaid and took two months for me to be approved for that. Note: I only make minimum wage at a wellness center working as a Nursery Attendant lol! And it took that long for me to get approved. You know how the state is sometimes...they're slow.
Ok so since I found out I was pregnant in February this year, I didn't get my first prenatal appt. until April the 28th. I was excited, of course. Then came the infection and I had to take a pill for that on top of the prenatal vitamins. In the last week of my career training, I'm put on bed rest because of my blood pressure going on. So I had to take a pill for that. Then after I had my daughter, I got another infection which is common in women. Your doctor may talk to you about it. So I had to take another pill twice a day for 7 days.
Not to mention I had to go in for stress tests to be sure I was okay. I was due 10/16 and I was induced because of my blood pressure on the 13th and had her on the 14th. So I can understand how you feel about all the tests. It's a battle, but it's all worth it in the end.
I think the worse thing was being attacked by the breastfeeding consultant and the woman who wanted to take pictures of the baby and also family coming by to see the baby at the hospital plus nurses and doctors wanting to take my blood pressure or feed me food lol. It was so hectic that day. I just wanted my percocet, motrin and a good night's sleep. I was in pain and barely moving around really, so when you're dealing with that or taking your first shower since you had the baby, you don't really want to deal with all the company right then lol...or early in the morning.
Just so you're aware, the GD test is extremely flawed and you can come back "diabetic" one day and fine the next. I don't trust those tests at all and think if you feel ok, that should be your first indication that you are doing fine. I am not taking the test at all! It's pointless. Therefore, it doesn't surprise me at all that this happened with your tests. It's frustrating that they put mothers through this kind of stress--I think only moms at risk or moms who are having problems that point to sugars should be tested, not all of us. Plus, I have a huge problem with the fact that doctors don't educate moms from the very start of pregnancy how to prevent the GD with diet and lifestye to begin with... they just wait until you have a problem and treat it medically! Ok, I'll stop there! I am glad you are cleared!!!
Quoting MandaD1224:
Update: I had my 3 hour glucose test yesterday and got the resluts back today and I am happy to report that my blood sugar level was normal. They have no idea why it was so high a couple of weeks ago. But I am thankful. We also had my 32 week ultrasound and I am again happy to report that everything appears to be perfect!! Again- Thankful. Thank you all for replying and helping me to ease my mind.
