When does your OB do this test?

I cannot remember when mine does it but i am dreading getting it done because I have had the (TMI) case of fissures and hemorrhoids this pregnancy. I am thinking he did my test somewhere around 37 weeks but cannot remember exactly.

I got my test done at 36 weeks. I thought it was going to be a lot more uncomfortable than it was. I didnt even feel it.

I had mine done at 35 weeks because I have a history of delivering right at 36 weeks.  The test involves a swab in your vagina and then they wipe the swap around your anus.  I don't think it is painful.

You don't even really know they are doing it unless you are really sensitive/tickelish.

they don't use the tool to 'open' you up like a pap.

You have options, you may decline the test or wait until later.   Or do the swabbing yourself.    And if you're worried, the swab doesn't have to be inserted internally.

I did it with my first and it is like wiping (your bottom with tissue after peeing) but with a big Q-Tip.    So certainly not painful.   ;-)

This test is something that some care providers don't do, other do it.   A mom might test can be positive one time and negative another time.    The treatment is often antibiotics in labor, but this can interfere.   There are many ways to treat GBS prior to labor.
