Wrong to ask for an induction date?

I'm 39 weeks. I've been battling hypertension these past few weeks and I was told they would not let me go past 41 weeks. Also, they estimate he's already a good 8 1/2 pounds and will be 9 by 41 weeks. So, tomorrow at my doctor's appointment, I want to ask for a SOLID induction date, as in "If he doesn't come on his own by this time we will induce". Would you do the same?

i dont think it would hurt just to ask to have one set just incase.  i would if it were me, that way its already planed if needed.

good luck! ive ask about induction and seem to be this horrible horrible person for it! my midwife of course wont do them so i spoke with an OB who agreed to once i hit 39 weeks but being thats a holiday it would be 40 weeks before she could do anything. i dont think hes going to stay in there that long but i guess if he does i have that option. i tried talking to my OB that i used with my DD about it. i wanted to see him for a 2nd opinion on babys size and due date and because my midwife doesnt seem to be taking my concerns seriously i wanted to talk with him about it. i also mentioned induction AFTER a test to see if the babys lungs are mature enough. but he wont give me any kind of care since im so far along now.

guess my point is, is that it never hurts to ask. the worst they can do is tell you they wont induce. and you being 39 weeks already, i dont see what the problem is in discussing your options

I totally did it! haha. When I was pregnant w/my first.. I had NO complications or anything but when I went for my last apt I totally asked them for an induction date in case he didn't come on his own before then.. I was SO happy when my midwife gave me a date, of course he was born the day before the induction date so it really wasn't necessary but I wasn't willing to let him stay in longer, I was miserable.

Oh my goodness I would definitely ask.

I'm going to be 30 weeks tomorrow, and I have been in CONSTANT pain for the last 3 weeks. I'm going to the doctor Wednesday, and I'm going to ask that I be induced at 36 weeks because he's already dropped, weighs FIVE LBS and they want him to double his weight? Ridiculous. I'm 5'2" and only weigh 116 lbs thus far in my pregnancy. There is noooo way I can have a 10 lb baby.

If they're already planning on inducing you, then I would go ahead and ask if you can have a "SET" date to go by.
