What will you be eating this Thursday? We always seem to go overboard trying to do way too many things, so this year I have cut it down to the basics:
Breakfast of pumpkin muffins, coffee and juice, then dinner....
Turkey (grilled)
Gravy
Cornbread Dressing
Corn on the Cob (grilled)
Sweet Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Green Beans
Honey Rolls
Cranberry Sauce
Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin Cheesecake (can you tell we LOVE pumpkin?)
We are 6 adults plus my two-year old. This will be the first time we've tried grilling the turkey, but it sounds good!
I am cooking this year for the first time in 3 years. First year hubby and I were together I went all out, since I wanted to make a good first impression with his family. They didn't touch any of the so-called "fancy" stuff I made: wild rice-stuffed acorn squash, Frenched green beans with garlic cream sauce, homemade stuffing, and acorn squash with brown sugar and butter. They wanted plain old mashed potatoes and Stove Top stuffing. Literally, all that "fancy" food went to waste. This year, I am making what they will eat. I am doing two 12 pound turkeys, since we will have at least 14 people, one will be made traditional-style, with the butter injections, etc. and the other will be made using an old salt pork method. Green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce (jelly and berry), butter rolls, salad, average appetizers. Apple, pumpkin, and cherry pie for dessert. The only "fancy" thing I'm making is Red Garnet yams whipped with heavy cream, cinnamon, and vanilla. I don't think anyone will eat those, but I want to make them anyways. Good luck with your dinner!
We are doing all this and broccoli casserole and carrots and minus the pumpkin cheesecake lol

I don't look forward to doing all the cooking at 38w6d preggo, but I'm going to. I think that maybe, just maybe DH will help me. That is if he doesn't go deer hunting...Anyway, I have a pretty simple menu because I just don't want to be all fancy and we're only having anywhere between 3-9 people, I think. Nobody will say for sure if they are coming!
Turkey (oven baked of course)
Stuffing
Green Peas
Corn on the cob
Mashed potatoes
Green beans (DH is allergic to peas)
Cranberry sauce
Rolls
For dessert:
Sweet potato pie
Apple pie
Cherry pie
Butterfinger pie (mine all mine darn it)
I think that's it...
We are having:

That reminds me of my first Thanksgiving w/ DH's family! The mashed potatoes and dressing were from a box. I volunteered to make my mom's holiday honey rolls, and I was the only one who ate them, everyone else preferred the canned biscuits! I have since taught DH to appreciate them, though!
Your yams sound really good, care to share the recipe?
