I just had my 39 weeks checkup and when she stuck her fingers dwn there for dialation (sorry TMI) I felt like she had stuck her whole hand plus her shoulder down there. It hurt soo much, she said she had to go under the babys head to do something, I was in so much pain that I didnt even catch it. But Im dialated to 1.... How much longer!!!! my due date is November the 30th, and I have a major test that day, then If he decides to not come that day we will wait and if he is yet too stubborn by Dec. 7th I will be induced. Something about sticking a pill down there to soften it. Im soo scared. Im sopposed to go to the hospitality house for a grade on my due date. I dont want my water to break in front of all those ppl. Seriously........ Everyone is telling me to walk, tht way the bby will come sooner but IDK i think ill wait for him to decide. Besides I need the extra time to drink all of my iron liquid thingy's. Did anyone go on labor with low iron??? Im 9.5 on my iron and my midwife is freaking out on me. I mean is it really that bad? sorry its so long and so all over the place but thanks for reading :)
first baby momma...
i'm not sure about the low iron, just do what ur supposed to for it and you should be ok. as for the checking hurting yes it does a lot!! i'm 40 weeks and 1 day and i'm dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced. been this way for a week and a half before that i was a 1 for two weeks. it just depends on ur body and baby when u will go. as for ur water breaking in front of all those people, only a very small % of women's water actually breaks in a gush before labor. so just wear a pad to be safe and dont worry! if it does happen they will definitely understand! walking will not put you into labor unless baby is ready, i was due yesterday and have been walking at least 2 miles everyday for over a week. it will get ur body ready for labor, by helping baby to move down and is great exercise.
I can hear you, I'm sorry that hurts so much, I have read so many stories about the last checkups, but about the iron, I have a low iron as well, and I'm taking iron supplements twice a day, they tell me that has to do with your hemoglobin, if you have a low number in hemoglobin you may faint or get really weak during the labor and the delivery, and that's kind of risky, that's why they freak out about the iron pills.
Yes, your iron is on the lower side, but nothing drastic. It can lead to anemia, but is not very uncommon in pregnant women. I admire that you are willing to wait until your baby is ready to come out versus walking to whatnot to induce labor. Good luck with your soon-to-be-here baby... incidentally, mine will be here on December 2nd, via a planned C-Section.
i wa like that with my son
my hubby deployed january 14, 2009 i was due feb 1st, so i walked an walked and walked trying to get it to come down
On feb 3 i was still pregnant so i went in the hospital that night
i was dialated 1 cm so they was going to give me that same pill down ther to soften up my cervic. its called a cervic dil but i had a nurse who didn't give me that she stuck 3 finger there and tried to open me up that was 11pm that night Then they gave me somrthing to make me rest cuz they was induceing me at six am. So at 5 am i woke up in pain 5 1/2 dialated and in labor. WOW now im 5 months pregnant again. lol
I walked and walked like crazy with my first, it did NOTHING. Went to my sister's house and walked on her treadmill for a while, then after DH got off of work we went to a park and walked a few more miles. All it accomplished was to put me in major pain with extreme aches on my lower stomach. Then we went to mongolian bbq and I ate the spiciest thing I could (someone told me it helps labor..), btw i HATE spicy foods, and still.. no baby. Honestly, I don't believe anything ..except maybe some sex could help progress it. 'They say' the mans cum helps soften the cervix, and orgams brings on contractions, don't quote me on that I'm no Dr though lol.

Actually you are right, my midwife told me that is a component in the semen that can help to soften the cervix and the contractions, but only works when the baby is ready
Make sure that they don't give you Cytotec. It is not approved for use in pregnant women.

You can always ask her to be more gentle next time... :- /
I never had any prenatal vaginal exams with my pregnancies, some providers do them, others do not. It is always your choice to choose to have them or not, of course, it's optional.
No way to know how much longer. First-time moms do average about 41 weeks, 1 day of pregnancy.
And being 0 centimeters or 5 centimeters doesn't mean you'll labor anytime soon. Some women start dilating earlier, others not until weeks after their due date. It is okay. ;-)
You are not likely (statistically) to have your water break until you're well into labor. It can happen anytime- weeks before labor or not at all (baby born in the sac intact), all variations of normal.
If you're worried, you can wear a maxi pad to help catch it, just in case. Some ruptures are tiny trickles, others are a major gush. A pad might make you feel a little better.
Walking won't make the baby come sooner as in "induce." BUT it can help baby to wriggle down into a deeper station, press on the cervix , help it to dilate more.
I had low iron and was good to drink my iron whenever I could. But since I hemorrhaged I had a harder recovery and needed to really rebuild my blood. I think doing all you can before birth is helpful.
Try not to think of baby as "stubborn" if he doesn't come within the normal due period. To induce a healthy & normal pregnancy is to add unnecessary risks. Be sure to learn about this, read info that can help you to understand these risks. A baby waiting until 41 or 42 weeks is still within the normal range (same as a baby born at 39 or 38 weeks).
*I am happy to share some info if you'd like! ;-)
Best wishes!!
