Doctor still hasn't checked anything down there?? UPDATE IN RED!!
Okay this is my 3rd pregnancy, but I am using a different OBGYN this time then I did with my other to (just because of insurance reasons). Anyways I know that usually when you go in for your first visit the give you a pap smear and check you for dieases and stuff. Well Im 32 weeks pregnant and I still haven't been checked. My year pap smear was due Sept 11 and I informed my doctors office and they say, "Oh the doctor knows this and he will do it." Another thing bothering me is all he ever does is listen to the heartbeat and then measure my stomache. The nurse does my weight, blood pressure and urine. Doesn't check anything else. I don't know but I feel like hes missing something. Am I being parinoid?
I guess I worded it wrong I haven't had a pap smear for this pregnancy....is it normal???
So I asked the doctor why I havent had a pap smear.....he said he was unaware that I was due for one. And that was the end of it? WTF? I know that when they do your pap they test you for STDS and all that. I just dunno how you can be unaware?
all he ever does is listen to the heartbeat and then measure my stomache. The nurse does my weight, blood pressure and urine. Doesn't check anything else.
This is exactly why I feel like going every 2 weeks is a waste of time! I have to find a ride and find care for my LG, drive over there and wait for about 20 mins for the doctor to just do these 5 stupid things! I find it very frustrating!!!
My OB doesn't check anything extra either unless I ask. I would talk to OB directly instead of the nurses... The nurses at the office I go to are nice, but clueless to what the OB wants to do. Last week nurse said I need to get checked for dilation I told her I was having a repeat c/s, and didn't need to be. She said PA wants to check just in case. So I get undressed, and prepared. Then PA says "you don't need to get checked you're having a repeat c/s, and no signs labor"... Yesterday I went for my last OB appointment a different nurses tells me get undressed to be checked. I told her about the c/s, and what PA said. The nurse says "Well OB really likes to check." Okay fine I get ready again, and OB tells me "unless you've been having consistent contractions we really don't need to check." Ahh... Sorry to ramble, but anyway I'd just talk to your OB about your concerns. My office has routinely only done the same things you said your office has been doing unless I've brought up something else.
I don't get checked either and i am having a repeat c-section next week. I had to ask to be checked when I had a yeast infection. I knew that something was wrong and I asked the nurse and she told me sure just get ready and handed me a sheet. The doc, checked me and and asked if I had ever had one before and I said no then he asked how I knew that I had one because it was not thatfar along at all he could barley tell that it was there and I told him that I was super sensitive and all. So, anyway long story short (too late) I would make sure to say something to the doctor when he comes in. He may not be thinking about you past and all just the moment.
I have had all my regular test, inital pap, glucose, blood test etc but during my regular appointments they really don't check anything else. The nurse does my blood pressure, weight and checks my urine. The doctor only listens to the heartbeat and measures and then ask if I have questions or any problems. My doctor does not do any cervix checks until 36 weeks. I would just ask your doctor at your next visit.
Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly,
Kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably,
And never regret anything that made you smile
Stop by and sign my guess book, I finally figured out how to add it to my homepage!
I am totally against it for me, so I don't mind not being checked at all until I'm feeling the urge to push in labor!
I think the best thing you can do is talk openly with your health care provider... there is NOTHING wrong with saying you feel like the visits are short and that something is being missed. i do think doctors are very bad at prenatal visits. My midwife sits with me for an hour talking about my diet, my physical activity, what I need to do more of or less of... things like this. It's important to have a relationship with the person who will be delivering your baby and if they have a problem with it... it's time to move on! I just fired my back up OB because of being ignore twice. I thought I'd have a relationship with a doctor too just in case I need to be transferred to a hospital, but I decided it's not worth it! They are so cold to me that I'd rather not bother.
That sounds like my typical doctor's appt... Although I did have a pap at 12 weeks, because I was due for one. I would bring it up with your OB and let them know you are overdue for your yearly.
Other than weight, BP and urine... I have had my triple screen and 3 US (8 weeks, 20 weeks, and then 24 because baby wouldn't show off her spine), and then OB usually measures and listens and asks if I have any questions.
15 minute appt, tops.
