I'm so frustrated. I've been sick with a cold for a little over a week now, basicaly just your typical lingering cough. But earlier this week I had a fever from it, couldn't eat and my blood sugar was low all day. It was so hard to force things down, but I ate carby foods so wouldn't have to worry about it....but I need because no matter what I ate the numbers stayed low. I also started contracting. So, my OB sent to me Womens and Childrens hospital in case I was in labor.
I was contracting every 2-3 minutes, but it was from being severely dehydrated. Plus my blood sugar was still low so they pumped glucose in me before saline. They made sure I didn't have pneumonia or bronchitus and they made sure i wasn't dialated or that my cervix wasn't thinned out....i wasn't.
Eventually I was sent home, finaly felt like I could eat but the cough was driving me nuts.
They advised a stop the insulin I as on and just stick with the meds. And since then it seems like I can't eat enough carbs, yesturday after eating a roll, mashed potatoes and stuffing I should have been high....maybe 180-200 with the blood sugar, but i was 62 and shaking from having a low.
I ate pumpkin pie, a big slice....well a normal slice for the average person but more than double what I would eat from my diabetes. And an hour and a half later I was 67, so I ate a roll and 3 pretzels, drank a tiny bit of juice, 2 hours later 80. UGH
It's so frustrating but good at the same time. It's almost like the type 2 diabetes i've lived with for the past 7 years decided to go away. And what's so odd to me is that typicaly later in pregnancy your diabetes gets harder to control and you need to cut back on carbs or have more insulin....which is what's been happening until earlier this week. And usualy when you are sick it causes your blood sugars to rise as well.
If the trend continues i'll enjoy it a little bit....make fettichini alfredo, one of my favorite pre-diabetes meals, lol....maybe enjoy more than one tiny forkful of chinese lo-mein....
But it just confuses and frustrates me to try and eat the foods that I typicaly eat and my body can't handle and now i'm struggling to keep my numbers up so I don't get sweaty and shaky and feel like crap from being low. sigh
Thanks for listening
i also say take advantage of it while u can :) :)

I am type II also and my doc. said to call right away if I had to decrease the amount of insulin I was taking...at this point in the pregnany you should need to increase...I would definally let them know and maybe get a non-stress test to make sure baby is okay...good luck! I know how frustrating lows can be!

Yeah I've had a few nst's, and it's my OB that ordered the insulin decrease, but my endo doesn't know yet, and they are the ones who put me on it to begin with. BUT, baby is doing perfectly fine.
I had a more "normal" reading last night after dinner, but I ate a LOT of carbs, for me.
I had bread with dip, a few chips, some crackers with cheese, a scoop of taters (double my usual portion), a scoop of stuffing (double my usual portion), a whole roll (rather than half), a few bites of chocolate cake and a few bites of regular ice cream. I tested at about an hour and a half rather than 2 hours and it was 124.
But normally for me eating that much would have me well over 200. I had a low during the night and drank about 8 ounces of OJ (a lot for me) and ate two pretzel rods....this morning my reading was 71!
Tonight i'm making my chicken alfredo, but i'm still going to use dreamfields pasta. After 7 years of living with type 2 I can't ignore my mindset of eat less or at least healthier carbs, but I am going to enjoy a meal I haven't had in a long while (or at least only enjoyed a bite or two at one time)
