Stubborn Little One

I am due today darn it! And still no baby. Can you say disappointing!?

The doctor thought she'd come before her due date - well I'm still pregnant so obviously not. When I went Tuesday the doctor said I was almost 2cm and 70% effaced and that hopefully by my due date...Hah! So if this little girl doesn't decide to come by Tuesday - I get induced. I don't want an induction! I wanted to go into labor on my own...*insert mumblings* Stubborn child. She's just like her Daddy (whom I'm mad at and not just for that)...

Okay...I'm done griping...I'm just grumpy...and gripey...and hurt...and depressed...and the list goes on. Gotta love hormones...

I would suggest some home remedies to make your labor progress.  Sex maybe, Castor oil or any other ideas people have tried that work.  I don't blame you on the induction issue..it seems more fun to be surprised a little bit...lol

Why do you have to be induced at 40 wks +4 days? To me that seems awfully quick if there isnt a medical reason for it. Is this your first baby? Did you make the decision on the induction or did your doctor? Did your doctor give you other options?

The doctor's reason may be medical actually.  My doctor said they don't ever let their patients go over 1 week past their due dates because the placenta starts to age quicker and can cause an abruption.

The only problem with that statement is so often doctors are wrong about due dates. I was induced and I have now come to find out we were off by 10 days... Im just asking becuase 40 wks +4 days isnt over a week yet.

I agree doctors are wrong about due dates, but usually not enough that inducing would cause an additional risk to the baby is all I'm saying.  I completly agree that if she doesn't want to be induced she shouldn't and she definetly shouldn't let her doctor talk her into something shes not comfortable with.

I can agree to most everything except the part about the risks. Induction sets yourself down a path that is "usually" lined with interventions. I do not know what the OP's plans for birth are, but with me... I was instructed not to eat after midnight. I came in at 5 am and they started the pitocin at 6 am. I was bound to the bed the entire time. I begged to be allowed to walk and they let me get in a rocking chair for 15 min (which felt sooo much better) I had to pee in a bed pan because they didnt want to unhook me from the continuous monitors. I did not get an epidural but most do end up having to because of the intensity of the pain. Pitocin also runs the risk of hyperstimulating the uterus (aka causing your uterus to give up). My future step mom had this happen at 5 cm. She was induced and stalled at 5 cm after the pitocin was at the highest legal setting. She was taken in to a csection. I am not saying this happens all the time. Some moms have a great experience with it. But if your a mom looking to avoid as many interventions as possible, an induction will more than likely send you down that path. I just want to make sure she has actually sat down with her doc and talked about the pros and cons of an induction at only 40 weeks.

Actually this is my first baby. And the idea of an induction is my doctor's. I didn't even ask. However, I believe the reason she is doing it is because I told her in the beginning when I told her my LMP I let her know that I was pretty sure it had started before the date I told her, but I couldn't be 100% sure. So I could actually already have gone over 40 weeks. by a few days. Also, the last couple appointments my bp has spiked up from normal so that may have something to do with it too. I'm not sure.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by risks...I was talking strictly from a time frame instance because there are always risks with any way that you have a baby....I meant that a doctor is not usually  so far off with a due date that a baby is born with no lung capacity or other complications that come with severly premature babies....I also said I completely agree with her not going through with an induction if it isn't her wish to have an induction

I'm in the same boat. My baby boys due on Sunday, but no signs of him yet. I go back to the Dr. on Tuesday if I haven't had him yet. I was told that they would schedule me for induction at that appointment. They don't like to let women go over because there are risks to the mom and baby if you do go over, at least that's what they told me. I actually kinda prefer that they do. My other two were both induced and it was a good experience for me.
