So i read you are not allowed to eat deli meat or hot dogs while preggo. I ate them with both of my other pregnancys and my kids are fine. I am worried b/c I don't want to harm the baby if it is really that big of a deal. I comply with everything else : I don't drink, smoke or have caffine. I usually eat pretty healthy. Is deli meat every now and then really that bad?

I was told that if you heat it, you're fine.
If I make a sandwich, I stick it under the broiler in my oven for a few minutes.  And it toasts the bread, warms the meat, and melts the cheese a litte, so I prefer it warm anyway.

My dr said in moderation is fine but he specifically named subway as a place to stay away from since they let their meat sit out. He said to try places that cuts the meat when you order although there arent many places like that.

I've eaten deli meat with all 7 of my pregnancies and haven't had any problems that I know of. What are the risks exactly?

The risk is listeria, which is a bacteria that can be found on deli meat, hot dogs, etc.  Listeria would make a normal person sick to their stomach, maybe give them diarrhea, but for a pregnant woman, listeria can cause a miscarriage.

It doesn't matter if you eat cold deli meat once in nine months, if that meat happens to have listeria, you could be at risk.

Always heat cold meats to steaming before eating to kill any bacteria.
