DNC?

What does dnc stand for?

My SD told us she was having surgery to remove an ovarian cyst and a tumor in her stomach but yesterday I asked her about the results and she said that they needed to do a coloscopy and biopsy because her pap smear came back stage 3.

Im so confused because 1)ive only heard dnc in regards to removing a fetus that died in womb and didnt pass and 2)  it sounds like she has cervical cancer not cancer in her uterus.

Any advice?

I had ovarian cycts and a ton of scar tissue so my doc did a laperoskapy (sp?) pretty much they made a cut in my belly button to put a camera threw to look at the inside of my uterus and then they made another cut near my c-section scar so they could open me up and remove the cycts and scar tissue.

from my understanding they dont use a dnc to remove cycts.

I know that after I had my 3rd child I kept bleeding for 7 weeks post delivery.  My MIL had 6 kids and told me that I probably need a DNC , she had this done 2 times after her last kids... apparently stuff gets left behind.  I didnt need one though but I know people have them for other reasons.

D & C is dialation and curettage of the uterus.  This is done whenever anything needs to be removed from the uterus--an abortion, a deceased fetus in the case of a missed miscarriage, or placenta or blood clots after delivery (that is what I had).  But if she has an ovarian cyst, that would be done by laproscopy, not D&C.

Its actually just, D & C, and it stands for dilation and curretage...it is where they dilate you and clean out your uterus.  I have had two...one for a molar pregnancy, and the other for a blighted ovum, that my body did not miscarry on its own.

its actually D and C. it stands Dilalation and Cutterage. meaning they dilate the cervix and then cut out what they need to.

i am a proud mommy of 1 ornery 1 year old little boy and one very goofy 4 year old little girl, ive been married for 2 years, together for almost 5. fun loving, eco-friendly, creative, different strokes work for different folks, stay at home and work at home mommy!

a colposcopy is commonly used to remove HPV cells (genital warts) and a D and C only concerns issues involving the uterus which is why they dilate- investigate... things do not add up at all. Also, I work with a crisis center, this is what I am basing my response off of- I am not a doctor... nor do I have Genital warts, lol

Simply a correction....its dilation and CURETTAGE....they do
NOT cut you at any time....whatever is cleaned out of the uterus is simply spooned out.

Its a little heart breaking that you associate HPV with genital warts.. that is a form that HPV can take on but not everyone has that strain... please do not catagorize the two together... they do not go hand in hand in everycase... =)
