I went to get my Down Syndrome test done today it's an ultrasound and then a blood test combined. I was in the ultrasound really enjoying the first ultrasound where the baby actually looked like a baby and not a bean the baby was hiccuping and even sucking it's thumb. I was so excited until the doctor came in he said that during the ultrasound he noticed a cyst on my left ovary and he wanted to take a better look so of course I was curious but anxious to know that things were fine then he told me that he wanted to see me again in 4 weeks and that it looked like I had a Dermoid Cyst. He then told me that it could have things inside such as teeth, hair, skin, muscle. WHAT!?! So then I asked if it was maybe another baby that didn't miscarry and stopped growing and he said no. He said I may need an MRI and bloodwork but it's nothing to lose sleep over. I am at ease by his calm tone yet kinda freaked out all at once. Anyone heard of this??
I also need to be seen by this new doctor as well as my ob. Anyone??
I swear I have heard of something like that (I think) I have cysts everywhere (seriously) ovaries, kidnesy, tubes. lol, Im full of them. but I do ot have any cyst like you do. all they will do I guess is just monitor it, and see if it gets bigger or not, and I would assume you would have a c section to remove the cyst.
Yup! I have! I had one removed actually! And was equally as skeeved by the description of it having the potential to harbor teeth and hair. He also described it as the consistency of firm butter. GROSS. At the time, the doc told me it was not a problem at all and I could just leave it in there, but I opted to have it removed. I wasn't pregnant at the time so there were no issues. I would guess your doc will tell you it isn't harmful and to leave it be at least till after your baby comes. He reassured me a lot that it was nothing to worry about though....hopefully that helps you feel better :-)
Yes, I too have one in my left ovary... apparently it was there before I became pregnant. From my understanding its more of a benign tumor that does grow tissue (teeth, hair, muscle fibers) its digusting if you ask me. I am 31 weeks pregnant and haven't had any issues with it... occasionally lately I get a dull ache on that side but I think its more from crowding. I've had 3 U/S and having my 4th tomorrow so they can measure it each time and check the baby. It is growing but very slowly. Both my Ob/Gyn and my Dr. assured me that there is no impact on the baby. However, I will be having a c-section to remove it at the same time. My Ob said I could have a vaginal delivery but would have to come back and have surgery to remove it (same cut) if I do it at the same time it will be an extra 30mins at the most so thats what I chose. If it goes untreated it could potentially wrap around your ovary and there's higher chance you would lose it. Rest assured its not that uncommon.... best of luck
