Baby Registry, should I have done it?

After much debate I finally registered. I used it more as a list of things that I need to make sure that we get what we need for baby. I have told a few family and friends about where we had registered. Most of the items on my list my DH has purchased for me.

We need everything for baby since my youngest is 10 yrs. No, we are not having a baby shower nor have I ever had one. But registered anyway because DH and my good friend kept insisting that I do. I did with much reluctance. (My MIL is throwing a baby shower for my SIL and neighbor girl, I have mentioned this before.)

Well, my FIL goes to my DH and says to him, "Gee, she wants everything. Doesn't she?" And my DH had told me about what his dad told him. I became defensive and my response was "Of course I need everything, we have nothing for baby." At the time I had about 42 items on my registry and 16 items have already been purchased by my DH.  I immediately went and deleted my list down to 27 items, leaving only 11 items that needed to be purchased. I cried because I don't want people thinking that I'm some kind of spoiled brat. My DH tells me that he wishes that he could buy me everything on my list and also tells me not to get my hopes up. I tell him that I don't expect everything on my list.

Am I being hormonal again? How many items did you place on your registry? Was it bad form for me to have registered for baby and have no shower?

In my experience, people will complain that you registered for "too much" or "not enough". I say register for whatever you want/need, and who cares what anyone else says! Besides, at least at BRU, you will get a 10% off coupon once your due date has passed so anything you register for and that is still on your registry you get to use that discount to purchase the items yourself. I registered just for that reason! Plus now I get coupons in the mail all the time!

((((hugs))))) Don't worry about the naysayers. I am so sorry they hurt your feelings. I even register because you get a discount like the PP said. Target gives you I *think* 15% after your due date. I think you should have a shower especially since you never had one. Every baby should be celebrated. You seem like such a sweet gal,I hope you have some friends that are planning one as we speak!

Mahalo! I don't think that there will be a shower, don't expect one. All of my side of the family and friends are in the mainland. My older sister is planning to come and visit baby & I this summer and can't wait to see her. Maybe I can convince DH to have a "Come meet the  newest member of our family BBQ" while she's here. But am not sure if it would be in bad taste to throw our own party for baby. Have to wait and see. It's always great to hear your advice, somehow I always feel a lil better when I see that you respond to my post. Thanks again!
