I will be 38 weeks tomorrow and when and where my watering breaking is about all I can think about right about now. I feel like I need to be walking around with a towel and trash bags for me to sit on Just in case. I have heard that amniotic fluid smells really bad and Im sooo scared Im gonna break in my car, or bed or couch or even in someone elses car or couch.  OMG that would be so embarrasing I would feel so bad. !!!!

For those of you whose water broke on its own, if it broke in bed, couch, car, whatever. How do you clean it/get the smell out???

Honestly, for MOST women, their water doesn't break until you're in the pushing phase.  So, try not to stress about something that's not likely to happen anyway.

That said, with my first, my water broke with no warning.  I was standing in my kitchen and had just pulled dinner out of the oven.  It wasn't a giant puddle or anything, just enough to make my clothes wet.  It did not smell bad, actually it didn't smell like anything at all.  It wasn't as big of a deal as people sometimes make it out to be.

Dont laugh.  I felt my "pop" i cant explain now it felt but I felt it and I jumped up as fast as I could and RAN to my bath tub, it didnt get anywhere, then I put a pad in and went to the hospital so I wouldnt get it in my car.  I am terrified it will break at school, because that would be my luck!

From what I have heard and from my own experience the amniotic fluid smells sweet and is clear (for most) Mine started leaking and then broke while I was in the bathroom so that made it pretty easy to clean up LOL Good luck and dont worry if it does break on something no one will be mad at you for it.

Mine broke while I was sleeping on the couch.  But there was no mess I don't think it even soaked through my shorts.  I just changed and got a maxi pad.  There was no smell.  I had been told that also but it wasn't true.  My husband insists this time my water will break at the store or mall.  I am not worried about it but he was right about predicting my last labor!

well it shouldnt smell bad.  Everyone I knows whos water broke said it really didnt have much of a smell.  With my kids, they broke my water (with my second I was already 10cm, fully dialated and he was coming out and it still hadnt broken), I didnt smell anything.  It is not even a guarentee that your water wil break.

Amniotic fluid shouldn't smell bad. Mine leaked consistently after contractions started. Fortunately I was at home since it was the middle of the night, so I didn't have to excuse myself from anyone's living room or anything LOL. But honestly, I'm not TOO concerned about that. I'm more concerned that if my water breaks or startes leaking before I am in active labor, that active labor will start immediately like last time since my first labor was so fast. Then I'll wind up doubled over with contractions while trying to crawl into y car, and then someone will freak and call an ambulance, then I'll have to explain that I'm not going to the hospital I'm going home and that everything's fine, and it'll be a huge attention-grabbing ordeal LOL. Like the Ellen Degeneres stand-up bit about "Lesbian demands cheese, starts riot!' LOL That's the ridiculous scenario floating around in MY head HAHA!

Naaaaahhhhh.......it'll be okay.

My water broke while I was already laying in the hospital bed and they were trying to stop my labor... (i was at 32 weeks) .... it gushed out and there wasnt any smell to it.  I got up and it literally GUSHED for the rest of the day until my contractions came on.  But the first intial "break" wasnt all that much...

My water broke when I woke up in the morning I just went to the bathroom and pulled the shorts back up walked out to the kitchen and I felt something so I ran back in the bathroom and it was just kinda leaking out...I took a shower. Ha the shower was weird since it was still leaking! I put a pad on packed my bags lol and called my hubby. I don't think it smelled I never smelled anything. And I was never worried about it breaking I figured it wouldn't happen that way lol i was wrong.

you just never know.  My first was born start to finish in 4hrs.  With my second my water broke and nothing.  No contractions so I had plenty of time to get to the hospital.  But once I made them give my Pitocin she was born 2hrs later!

Mine broke while we were going for a walk and talking to our friend.  Just a little bit at first but then it GUSHED in the van all of the way to the hospital.  No foul smell or anything but they did have to put out the wet floor signs all through the ER (where I had to register) and up to the maternity ward!
