Ok so my brother, my son, my grandma and I all have this really really bad cold. I am starting to think its more for me and my son tho. It starts with a croupy cough, stuffy head, and runny nose. We still have all these symptoms but for me I have started to be able to feel and hear gurling in my left rib cage when I breathe after a coughing fit. and my son is starting to run a fever off and on and he obviously doesn't feel well. I was going to take him into urgent care this afternoon and have them see us both when my mom got home from work but the driveway is now snowed shut and we are supposed to get another 3-5 inches before morning. (plus blowing snow). normally I would be ok with just letting this run its course, but I am starting to worry about the gurgly sound in my ribs. Could I have pnemonia? And if I do won't that interfere with my pending c-section if its not gone by then? doesn't my O2 sats have to be at a certain point in order to do surgery? I really think the baby is gonna come in the next week and a half, and another reason I am worried is because if I can't get rid of this crap and I bring home a newborn to this doesn't that increase his risk of RSV? Does anyone know any natural remedies that would help with this? I am going to turn my bathroom into a steam room later and try to break everything up but I don't know what else to try. The meds (both OTC and RX) aren't really helping. I am on Robutussin with codiene and even that isn't doing anything. I want to get rid of it so I can disinfect the whole house before the baby comes.
So the plow went by (yay!) so we were able to get into the ER. (urgent care was already closed) The weird part is... I have been sick longer then my son and my brother longer then me. We all have the same symptoms except my son just today developed a fever. So they checked out all three of us and then diagnosed us all different. They said my brother has bronchitis, I have a URI and my son they did a chest x-ray on and he has pnemonia. They didn't want to do an x-ray on me because I am pregnant, and the dr didn't want to put me on anti-biotics either. They put my son on amoxicilin and said motrin and tylenol for the fever and they said not to give him cough meds, and NO dairy. (this one sucks because he loves cheese and he's 3 so he doesn't totally understand). What I don't understand is why we all have something different? That seems a little weird to me. But at least we are all being treated right? and they gave me a list of things to watch for in my son that if he gets any of those symptoms to take him back in right away. Now I am a little freaked out. I know alot of children with pnemonia get hospitalized and that is way scary for me.
oh no fun! i hope it is nothing serious. i guess i would wait and see what it is before having to come up with plans in regards to your c-section and such. your baby should have some immunities from you, so i wouldnt be too worried about your newborn picking it up. i guess i would just take warm showers in efforts to break it up (like you said a steam room in your bathroom is a good idea too!) and i would just keep up with nutirition. i drink alot of juice when im sick and it tends to help out a bit. feel better!
Thanks! I am just worried that its turned into pnemonia. I get it about once a year and I have chronic bronchitis. I don't want to be on more meds this late in pregnancy. I had pnemonia when I was pregnant with my son but I was only 15 weeks but it took about 3 weeks to get over it. I don't know about the immunities the baby will have. I have been on prednisone for my entire pregnancy and I read that that can make it hard for baby's body to produce its own steriods and that they are more prone to infection. I have been on the lowest dose possible but I had to stay on it and I just worry alot lol.

wow! i hope you all start feeling better! im no doc, but it could have started out as the same cold and turned into all sorts of different secondary infections hence why perhaps you all have something different? just an idea...again im no doc. take it easy momma!
my dd had pnemonia last year....luckily it wasnt really bad and the antibiotic worked really quick.....so hopefully it does the same for your son! good luck!
