My doctor prescribed a low dose of glyburide to help me with my fasting numbers, which are the only numbers I have a problem with at all (my other numbers are always WELL within range, and fasting is usually less than 7 off each time). I was hesitant to take it because I've heard it isn't as safe as insulin to take while pregnant, but he told me I don't need insulin because I'm not 'bad enough' for that and insulin would probably make my numbers too low, and not to worry, that I'm on the absolute lowest dosage of glyburde (1.5 mg/day) that there is. He told me that it would be more dangerous for the baby for me *not* to take it, so I agreed to start using it.
Tonight is my first night taking it as I eat dinner (which is when
he told me to take it every night)...has anyone else on this medication
had any sort of funny side effects or anything I should watch out for?
Is it common to be prescribed this instead of insulin if your numbers
aren't BAD, but just a little out of range? I still feel bad taking it because I'm hesitant to take any medication while pregnant unless it's a life or death situation, but since he reassured me that my baby needs me to take it, I guess I
should just get over the guilt. Any advice/input from other women who have taken it while pregnant?
