When deciding to purchase a house were your payments fitted comfortably into your budget or did you know that things would be tight?

Basically we are interested in upgrading from a small 1 bath, 2 bedroom trailer to a 2 bath, 4 bedroom double wide. Right now our payments are $420 a month fairly comfortably. The price qouted to me for this other house was $700 which was an over estimation but with the downgrades we plan to make we should be able to get the payments down to under $600 a month.

Here is the thing....we really do need this house with baby #3 on the way but I am scared to death to get into something that is too much for us to handle. My Hubby already said he will get rid of all extra's if need be but still the "What ifs" are killing me. I stayed up all night thinking about WHAT IF hubby lost his job and WHAT IF this and WHAT IF that and I am just a worry wart. My biggest concern is that we are getting this house on family property so what if we did have trouble paying it....on the other hand I know that my Hubby would not pay our other pills to be sure to pay the house payment if something aweful happened. Anyway I just need some advice please ladies!!!

were going to be in the same boat....and will have to get rid of all the extras until the house we live in now sells. 2 mortgage payments is really going to make things tight but were due to close on the house no later than the 12th...good luck mama.

Make sure you can still live comfortably, that's what hubby and I ALWAYS say!(We watch LOT of home buying shows on TV) People buy at the TOP end of there budget and then end up not being able to do the things they used to. YES, you may have to give up a little bit, but DON'T give up a normal life just to buy the house you WANT right now! I don't know about your fincial situation, but 600 for ahouse payment is really good. That's what our's is, but we pay 700 a month just to help pay it off faster. (Because of the military hubby was offered a 400,000 dollar loan for a house, but we KNEW what we could actually afford was NOTHING like that amount!) So, we're living in our 80,000, not the house of our dreams, but VERY comfortable  and nice house! And in 10 years when we have it payed off we'll be upgrading to the house we REALLY want (We'll probably be building).

Also, a little adivce.... if you can make even just ONE extra payment a year on your house on principle it will take something like 5 YEARS off your morgage!

we only bought our house bc we knew we could afford it and still live the way we wanted to (eat out , do extra activities) we wouldn't have bought it if we weren't sure we could afford it.
