I was thinking of making a list, kinda like a birth plan to give to my nurse when I go to L&D. Things like don't offer any medicine pain relief, I want to nurse right away, thing like that. I might be a little distracted when I go in and forget stuff that I want or don't want. I just don't want to come off as too controlling or overbearing.
It is great to have one, but don't make it a list of demands. Word it so that it indicates that you are aware that emergency situations may warrant more flexibility and that you have taken time to educate yourself before making these decisions.
If it is just a list, hospital staff sometimes get pissy about them and treat you differently or disregard the list.
i dont think it is rude to make a list...i actually made one and kept it in my luggage for my husband to refer to if need be.
It's not rude at all. I made a birth plan and printed out 3 copies.....one for my doctor (he wants it at my next visit), one to keep in my hospital bag, and one to give to the nurses when I get to the hospital. It's easy to forget and let things get by when you're in labor. It's better that everyone knows what you want ahead of time.
So you want to make a birth plan.
;-D
And of course, you can do this!
Most of us have preferences, why not voice them to the strangers who are giving you very important care on (one of) The Most Important Days Of Your Life ?! ;-)
It is far from "rude," it is common and normal and sometimes even expected.
Do you need help with creating the plan?
