I lost about 15 pounds in my first trimester, i got back to my pre-pregnancy weight plus have gained another 27!!! AHHHHH, I had about 7 weeks between appointments last time and gained 20 pounds in that 7 weeks. I just weighed myself on a scale at the store and i have gained another 7 pounds in 3 weeks! I know the scale was right because my mom weighed herself too, and she has a scale at home and it was the same. This happened when i was pregnant with my daughter also. My weight just gets out of control! anyone else? I really need to cut out the junk food i guess, i have always been able to eat a little junk food when not pregnant and maintain my weight but when i'm pregnant if i eat a candy bar and a piece of pizza i gain 10 pounds. Its so annoying! I really dont feel like i'm shoving my face that much to be gaining all this weight, and its not like i was skinny to begin with.

You have to weigh yourself on the same scale EVERY time to get an accurate assessment of your weight gain.  Just because two different scales say the same thing doesn't mean that they're accurate OR that you actually gained 7 pounds.  You can get a scale to use at home, or you can STOP WORRYING SO MUCH ABOUT IT and eat a healthy balanced diet and exercise moderately :)  Your body will put on as much weight as it needs to for your pregnancy and as long as you're not GORGING on ice cream and pizza you'll be fine :)  A little bit once in a while is totally okay.

Yeah, I have always worried WAY too much about weight, pregnant or not. I struggled with an eating disorder as a teenager and I probably should just quit finding out my weight all together because it drives me crazy.

I wonder if i can just refuse to be weighed from now on, because my weight is really starting to get to me. I mean what are they weighing us for anyway?

I'm sorry you're struggling.  I would definately recommend not tracking your own weight any more.  No need to worry yourself over stuff that you don't need to worry about.  You have enough on your mind with a daughter and a pregnancy.  I do stress the importance of a healthy diet during pregnancy, but a healthy diet can most definately include a pizza night or whatever a couple times a month, so don't beat yourself up about that.  Just get on the scale backward and ask that they don't tell you :)  With your history it would definately be best to stop tracking.

I think it would be too hard to know that they know my weight but i dont lol. I'm going to ask my midwife at the next appointment if it is really that necessary to be tracking my weight.

Depends on your provider.  Some doctors will drop you for refusing the routine things like that, and in some states a midwife can lose her license if you end up transfering and she hasn't written a weight down for you in 2 months.  Ask your provider at your next appointment.  Are they aware of your history of eating disorder?  That might help them understand why you need to stop with the weight measures.

The weight check is not evidence based care, actually.  Women who gain nothing deliver healthy babies and women who gain 100+ deliver healthy babies.  There is little or no evidence that monitoring weight as closely as we do in this country improves outcomes.  If you weren't gaining ANYTHING then we know that something may be wrong, and we need to look at your diet.  If you are gaining TONS then we also need to look at your diet.  If you have been gaining normally and come in all swollen with a 7 pound weight gain in a week then we check blood pressure, but really, unless there is a serious diet problem or blood pressure problem (which would be caught when they take your blood pressure anyway), then there's no medical reason to weigh yourself at every appointment.

ETA- it would be more effective to ask a woman to keep a diet journal for a week here and there and monitor blood pressure than it would be to check weight at every appointment.  Even women who eat CRAP can gain "normal" amounts and have a sick baby because she's malnourished herself.  Just a thought.

If your midwife says she still needs to weigh you ,you can ask to just not be told the weight.

I go back next week and i feel sure i'll be close to 170.  its very depressing and its killing me.. i so want to be one those cute skinny pregnant girls with just a basketball under their belly. I wasnt last time, and I'm not this time....I think i just need to accept i will never be one of those.

Yeah, me too. The first places my weight seems to go is my arms, face and butt, then my tummy lol. So before i even get the cute tummy i'm already fat all over.
