A Little Concerned About 21 week Ultrasound...UPDATE with Thanks :)

We had our ultrasound today and it is a BOY!!! We are very excited and DD is still saying that it is a girl. LOL But there were a couple things that concerned me and I dont know if I want to wait until Monday to find out.

She kept measuring parts of his brain...is that normal? I dont remember from DD.

His heartrate has dropped from 158 to 139bpm.

And his hands were clenched for most of the time. I have read some posts on here where the hands were clenched and the Tech/doc was concerned something was wrong.

UPDATE AND THANKS>>>

This is why I LOVE this group!!! Thank you sssooooo much. My belly ache is gone. LOL. And now that I think about it baby did open his fist once and throw us the peace sign. LOL

Thanks again ladies you all rock. I feel MUCH better!

Has any of these happened to anyone or am I just freaking myself out for no reason???

At my 20wk ultrasound I remember the tech taking a lot of measurments of DD's brain, she spent a while on that part. DD's heartrate was always around 150 and then one day at my weekly DR visit it was 130. My DR said that, that was normal and that she was probably sleeping. I am not sure about the clenching of the hands though. Congrats on your little boy!

Not sure about all of it but I know variations in hb is a good thing as long as it stays within the normal range and your baby's is

They take lots of pics of the head and spend time looking at the brain. They just want to make sure everything is developing right and things are where they are supposed to be. When I had my u/s with the fetal maternal specialist, the tech spent about 20 of the 45 min looking at his head and then another 10 looking at his heart.

I wouldn't worry about the HB, my LO HB is anywhere from140-166 depending on the time of day and how much baby is moving.

Yeah they do brain measurements which is great, and some babies don't respond well to the ultrasound itself and that is why they will clench up because it upsets them.  Some babies will run away from the wand.  His HR is normal and that could also mean he doesn't like the U/S.  Congrats on the boy BTW.  My DD called it a doggie until the last month so your a step ahead lol.

They measured my babies brain alot too...and I go in for NST's twice a week and they are looking for variations in heartrate, meaning they want to see it go up and down. Maybe your baby was resting. lol. Im not sure about the fists though. Good luck!

They measured my babies brain too! Also, his heartbeat keeps getting lower but hasn't been below the low 150's yet...doctor did say as he got bigger that his heartrate would decrease as his blood supply got better
