I have an amnio scheduled for next thursday. Not very familiar with this procedure.....are results usually 100% on or are there false-positives? How uncomfortable is it to have this done? Have a dr's appt tom and Im sure she will help answer some of my questions but was hoping to hear from other moms who have been thru it.....thanks!

Is there a reason it's been recommended to you? Just curious, because it's not standard for most pregnancies.

More false-positives then not. And a risk of miscarriage.

Why are you having one? I think they are too risky to be done routinely.

I would never have one.  What are they testing for?

I don't believe there are false positives with an amnio. They take a sample if the babys dna to be tested. Doesn't get any more accurate then that. It is risky though. A small chance of miscarriage. Good luck.

Diff studies say different percent i've heard below 1 and up to 5. I personally wouldn't risk. It's not like knowing will allow you to change your baby so imo not worth risk.

I haven't been there before but I have heard my MIL's horror story when she had her 4th son they made her get one due to her age and they almost hit his head with the needle. With her 5th and last son she declined it said it didn't matter to her either way she was gonna keep her baby! Do what you feel is right oh and she said it hurt too!

it is a test that looks at all the chromesomes in ur baby. its a great test. I have had 3. never had a problem. I'm gonna have 1 in a week or so.. there is risk of miscarriage.. but it shows u all the information about ur child.. even the eye color.. :)
