Our adoption story...kinda long but here it is

I've seen posts about adoption and what not here and there.... Most of you know Lexi is not our birth child (though we will NOT treat her any diff then the baby thats on the way).. Anywho here is our story SO FAR... the adoption isn't finished but i'll explain why...... (sorry if I say WELL and other words over and over!)

My husband and I had just got back together and he was staying at his sisters since lease just ran up and he was heading into the military within 3months. So I moved in. Well his sister Amy and then husband Brian had been on a list for adoption, they had 2 little ones at the time already. Haylie who was then 2 and Tyler who was 5.

Little Alexis was born on July 13th, 2008 and Amy was asked if she wanted to take her home. She of course brought her home and my husband and I instantly fell in love with her! SO hard not to, she was the most beautiful happy baby I have ever seen! My husband and I got married on Aug 14 2008 and he left shortly after for AIT. (didnt have to do basic since prior service) I stayed until Rick was done with school so I could help with the kids since Amy and Brian were having some problems. Problems that made Amy want to be out of the house and Brian would come straight home and go to his room. We all loved Alexis however I don't think Brian ever did and he took his issues out on her.... such as when he had the kids for hours he wouldnt change Lex and she seemed to always be VERY hungry when we came home.

Well of course Brian didnt want Lexi and Amy was on the fence as to what to do with everything going on and we talked about us taking Lex temp then decided that it would be best that she was with us fulltime. My hubby called and we talked about it and knew it would be the best choice of our life as well as best choice for Lexi. However since hubby wasn't in state we had to use power of attorneys and whatnot to go to court to get legal guardianship until we could get her adopted. So she is now 100% ours LEGALLY and everything however has yet to share our last name until the adoption is final. Which with some family issues then the deployment we haven't been able to do yet. We know we will get it done before she goes to school however and starts writing her last name.

Lexi is our child, we have never looked at her or treated her any different. She changed our lives for the better and I have no regrets on what we did. Lexi is truely where she belongs.  Some say it's not fair since I was only 20 at the time and my hubby was 25 that we were able to get her since such a long list of people "better suited" that were waiting for babies. But those people can shove it, cause as I said she's where she belongs and I wouldn't be the person I am today if she wasn't here with us. I may make my mistakes as any parent, but i KNOW im a good mom and my husband is a good dad.

We will tell her someday, I feel horrible that I don't have ultrasound pictures to put in her book as I do this baby..... Or newborn pics as we will with this baby... But she will know she is loved just as much and SHE IS OUR FIRST BABY.

I think thats an awesome story!! thanks for sharing and its wonderful that you and our husband provided another life for your little girl and took her out of a bad situation... As for people who were judging you, thats really crappy of them and misery just loves company!! Im sure she will know that you love her and she will never feel out of place :)

I'm adopted and I always forget that I am lol.  My parents never kept it a secret from me or my sister (who is also adopted) so we never had to suddenly find out when we got older.  I think when families adopt it's meant to be!  My sister and I look exactly alike (no genetic relationship at all) and we look like our dad :)  Some day I would like to adopt too
