doubting my choice to have a repeat csection?...piog...
well i just had my 24wk doc appt...it was with the doc i was supposed to talk to about having a repeat csection but come to find out he wont b here after the end of the yr cuz he is moving so he is setting me up with a different doc to talk about it. but he did tell me they do try to encourage VBAC's..i am just not sure about either choice now..i know the risks of a csection and with two kids the recovery time is not going to b fun or easy and so a VBAC would b better in that area but i am not sure..long story short my first was 6lbs 12oz and got stuck on the way out and they had to help pull him out (i still have chronic pain in my left hip from it). my second was 8lbs 7oz and was too big to come down and out (my cervix was stuck at a 9 too)...so he was my csection baby...after that the doc told me i was just not built for vaginal birth and i decided that my nxt i would just have a csection..but idk..i am scared of the risks that comes with both trying a VBAC (like the possibility of another emergency csection cuz i really cant vaginally birth bigger babies) and repeat csection..my nxt doc appt is with the other doc in the office who does csections and i am going to talk to her about all the risks and whether its even a possibility for me..
so i guess i am asking for some advice or help or something..idk what really..

SORRY FOR ANY TYPOS, IM NAK ALOT!

I would at least try the vbac labor is good for your body and the baby and if you HAVE to have a c-section then you will know but you have to be complete and pushing, a 'too big' baby will not cause you not to dilate. You need to not push with your pelvis closed so that means no epidural. You can open 3 more cm if you are squatting or on hands and knees to push, and remember weight isn't the issue it is head size. And the head molds coming out and so does your pelivs, you just have to move during pushing to get good passage.
ive never been in that situation, all i can tell you is what i would do. And that would be to of course try to avoid the c section and go for the vbac. But you should do what you and your dr feel is right. But it doesnt hurt to try :) Well actually in this case it does cause labor hurts...lol but good luck!
with my first i had to have an epi because after they gave me pit my contractions were too strong and close so i was not progressing. it was also after 15hrs of labor so i was fine getting the epi to slow my labor so i could progress and get some sleep, but otherwise the contractions i was able to handle even with the pit...with my 2nd i got the epi after my water broke and my contractions were so strong and painful i was going into shock..so if i tried for a vbac and my contractions were not like they were with my oldest not getting an epi is fine but if they were like they were with my youngest there is no way i couldnt get one..

babies get stuck so often because of hospital policies, interventions, mothers birthing on their backs, epidurals, and other things like that. it is rarely because the mother physically cannot fit a baby out of her pelvis. but laying on your back to push reduces your pelvic opening. if you are standing or squatting or on hands and knees, your pelvis opens 30% more, AND you are also pushing with gravity, not against it. so i dont think its that you CANT fit out a big baby, i think you were probably just hindered by outside influences. i would look into alternate positions and also consider hiring a doula who would be very helpful with positioning and movements to help get the baby out and keep you thinking positive :)
For your baby's birth that ended in a section, were you on your back or were you encouraged to move around, squat, get on all fours, etc.? That can make a TREMENDOUS difference. The vast majority of cases where a mother is told the baby was too big/her pelvis was too small are NOT true cases. Rather, it's a lack of knowledge or support on how to get the baby out on the birth attendant's part. Lithotomy position (on your back) makes your pelvis the SMALLEST it will go. So of course some babies have a hard time coming out that way because humans aren't meant to give birth that way!
I highly recommend that you look at ican-online.org and also go to mothering dot com in the forums (discussions) and post in the VBAC forum.
In most cases, the risks of a repeat cesarean outweigh the risks of a VBAC. You are lucky to have a doctor who encouraged you to consider VBAC.
Here is a very eye-opening YouTube video of women who were sectioned for CPD ("big baby") and subsequently VBAC'd larger babies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roFVkDV45MM
perfectly said!!!!

You should look into natural pain relief so you will be able to push is a better position.
And even if you do end up with another emergency c-section in the end the hormones and such from labor are so good for your baby!

no because i had an epi..and yes i HAD to have one or i could have died. once my water broke (on its own) my contractions were too strong and so painful i was going into shock and going in and out of consciousness..i was induced starting at like 2pm with whatever pills on my cervix (they did two of them in a 4hrs time frame) i was up walking and moving until about 730 when i sat/laid down and at 8pm is when my water broke. from 9pm till midnight i was only dilated to a 9 even with the midwives and nurses helping me change and move positions using pillows..after that is when they, the midwives, got the on call obgyn. the baby was not coming down (his head was too big) and i was still stuck at a 9..i was still at a 9 when they took me in for the csection at 4am (he was born at 4:54am)....

the doc was one of the two docs who do csections there and he was also the one who did my csection with my youngest. he said they try to encourage ALL women to try a VBAC..but he is moving in dec so i have to wait till my nxt appt to talk to the other doc about both options...but it seems like the list he gave me of the risks for a VBAC is like way bigger than the list of risks of having a repeat csection...Here is a very eye-opening YouTube video of women who were sectioned for CPD ("big baby") and subsequently VBAC'd larger babies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roFVkDV45MM

From what I read in your posts, if this were me, I would choose a vaginal birth because it sounds like the safer route. Plus it's so nice!
