I know you arent supposed to do a bunch of heavy lifting while pregnant, but for those of us with toddlers to pack around while pregnant, we have to sometimes. I was wondering if anyone knows the actual 'guidelines'. Like, how far along before its dangerous, or the weight limit or whatever.
Also, if you packed around kids through your whole pregnancy & everything was fine, I would like to hear about that, too. Haha.
Ive been wondering the same thing lately. When DH isn't home for bedtime, I have to lift DS into his crib and he is getting close to 30 lbs. And he wants to be picked up at other times too and I feel bad if I dont pick him up. Can't wait to hear what other moms have to say
I think they say its 20 lbs but lets be reaslistic...i have a 19 month old.. he weighs 25 lbs..i carry him all the time....i aslo lift and pull and tug throughout both of these pregos at work 12 hrs a day so i think if you were doing it before you should be fine.
this came up for me my last pregnancy because i worked in a factory with heavy lifting. My doc basically told me, there is no set limit because it will be a different number for everyone. If you are use to lifting heavy things, she said theres no reason you need to stop unless you start having problems lifting what you use to. I dont think i fully agreed with her, but i just did what my body felt was ok to do.
My son is 45 pds and its a bit of a struggle to lift him up into the carts at the shopping stores and what ever else that he needs to be lifted into
I have a 2 year old that is about 30 pounds and a 1 year old that is 17 pounds.. At times i have to hold them both! i havent had any problems.. I do cramp or contract when holding them but its what i have to do!!!
my dr has my on a no lifting over 10lbs- he doesnt want me carrying our 2yr old at all who is about 35lbs but i still do here and there. i have previous back issues and each lb i gain i can feel it on the lower back :(
i think it just may vary on each person and what they can handle...
Well I don't know actual guidelines, I just do things until I feel uncomfortable. A month to the day before my son was born we moved and while I didn't do super heavy stuff I did do a lot.
With my daughter I didn't have to move thankfully;-) but I did have a 2 year old and of course did the daily stuff like carrying the groceries up 3 flights of stairs (will never live on the 3rd floor again:)
This pregnancy at 8 weeks we moved from Colorado to Texas, my Husband was already here so I did everything I could possibly do at home... Carried mattresses, boxes, my brother and I loaded over half the truck, took tons of trash out ect.. I had no choice and since I was so early I wasn't too worried- Turned out fine.
Just this week (27 weeks) I pushed 2 large packed boxes to the garage, a dresser and help my Husband carry out the love seat we sold. I couldn't pick up the boxes or dresser so I just pushed them and took breaks after each. I also have a 30 pound 2 year old I carry around pretty regularly. Although I try to not pick up my 4 year old too much.
Erica
i don't know the guidlines, but i lift 25 kilograms on a regular basis at work. the rule is that if it feels uncomfortable, don't do it. in the beginning, i have someone help me lift and carry, and by 20 weeks i will not be lifting them at all. my son is 30 pounds and i will still be carrying him around. my daughter is 41 pounds and i know i will not be able to lift her.
