Inducing lactation

I'm 14 weeks along with my 4th baby.

I couldn't BF my other 3 for long, and I'm really upset about it. I can feel my breasts getting a bit larger and I really really really want to BF this one for as long as I can. But I'm afraid of not being able to make enough milk.

Do you think its possible to induce lactation with my breast pump while pregnant?

That can send you into preterm labor.

I would check out the breastfeeding moms group, here on CM. 8) They can answer your questions and be really helpful, sometimes.

What happened that didn't work out in the past?    Maybe there is something that can be done.   During pregnancy we might start lactating but it's just colostrum, no milk until postpartum.    Nipple stimulation can cause preterm labor for some so probably safest to avoid if it's not going to help anyhow.

There are plenty of things you can do to prepare for success, but pumping now is not one of them. It won't help and like the others have mentioned can cause preterm labor. I would go ahead and talk to a lactation consultant now to get ready. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great. :)

NO!!! It starts your uterus contracting and can put you into early dangerous labor. There are ways to improve your milk supply once you start though. Nursing often is the best way to start as your body will build it's own milk supply based on the demand for it. So the more often you nurse, your body knows it needs to produce more. Also, fennel root is great for lactation. And the Odouls alcohol-less beer too. They make a tea called Mothers Milk that you can get at the grocery that is made from fennel root that helps but you have to drink quite a bit. Like 6 cups a day, so it's easiest to bulk brew it and then turn it into iced tea. Lots of other tips too if you want more =)
