I have a question. Hopefully, someone can answer me.
I am having a Csec w/ this baby (I'm 10w). When I had DS it was an Emergency Csec where I was knocked out completely. I didn't wake for 4 hours afterwards. :( I'm attempting to avoid it this time and have an epidural or spinal block. My issue is this: I was diagnosed at 11 w/ what's called Ligament Growths. They are small balls of extra ligament and tissue that have grown along my tailbone. One of them is connected to my spine. Right where an epi or spinal would go (to my knowledge). I have all intentions of having my OB check them out and see if they are still causing an issue for an epi/spinal. If they are CAN THEY DO AN EPIDURAL HIGHER UP IN MY BACK? Not a crap load higher, like my shoulder blades. Haha! But just an inch or two higher!? I've seen pics of women who have the epi and it doesn't look like it's in the tailbone, but a bot higher.
I go to my Ob Friday fOr my 11w appt and I'll ask her all of this then. But just wanted opinions now.
Thanks. :)
Good luck!

My spinal was in my mid back, not in my tailbone. They put it low enough so your lungs are not affected (they did my sils epidural too high and she almost died) but high enough to affect the area they will be cutting.
Good luck!
Spinal is less meds so that is generally preferred, and I have no idea about placement.
GL!
It's not done anywhere near the tailbone. From what I remember from my panicked state at the moment it's just below the shoulder blades

This gives me hope. :) I'm praying I can do it. I just need it done like 2 inches above my tailbone, that's it! I don't think my lungs are that low. Lol. Sorry about ur sil I hope shes doing ok.

Im not sure exactly where your growths are, but I had my epi right in the middle of my back. Ive heard some people say they had theirs lower.

Spinals are often done lower than epidurals. I believe my epidural was done in my upper thoracic while my spinal was my upper lumbar. Even my spinal was no where near my tailbone though....
That being said my epidural did NOTHING for my c-sec--either that or my complications were just that bad =( and I felt my entire c-sec. I ended up hallucinating, blacking out, and eventually put under. I couldn't walk for 5 days--meaning my legs would not move. I lost motor function.
My 2nd c-sec on the other hand was done with a full spinal, I felt nothing, and was walking within 8 hours-controlled leg movement within 1 hour.
Sorry..not trying to scare you, just have experienced both...if the site for a spinal on you is in an area that is approved with your issue, I'd definitely do a spinal.

not sure about the medical stuff but like you I was under general anes with my first C/S with DS1 because it as well was emergency...this time around my doc asked which way I wanted to go (vbac or repeat) and if I wanted epi or spinal block...the spinal block makes more sense to me after taking to anes at my hospital. You can call the hospital where you are delievering and ask to speak with an anes doc and they will connect you. The doctor I talked to this time was the same one that did DS1 and she was super nice!
