Intrauterine Growth Restriction Due to Maternal Nutrition-PLEASE HELP...

I am almost 34 weeks and have only gained 8 lbs for this pregnancy. Well, actually, I gained 10, and then recently lost 2...Anyway, my doctor is concerned about the baby having some intrauterine growth restriction and is concerned that she may fall below the 10th percentile.

They scheduled me for another ultrasound in 2 weeks to check her weight (right now, it is currently 3lbs14oz.

My question - What will happen if my baby's weight falls below the 10th percentile? Will they deliver since I am so far along? What is the major cause for concern?

I really appreciate any advice you can give!

Call me crazy, but I don't understand why the dr is so worried.  With my last one I lost about 25lbs and only gained about 8 of it back by the time I delivered at 37 weeks.  And dd was 7lb15oz at 37 weeks.  But maybe mine weren't worried because I am high risk and have regular sonos anyway?  I duno.  But please keep us updated momma!  You will be in our thoughts.

Have you been measuring on all along, otherwise?

If baby is safer outside than in you may want to consider delivering earlier, but the risks with getting baby out could be bigger if baby is safe, just on the smaller side.
Exposure to U/S is also associated with smaller babies (etc), too, so you might want to discuss limiting the ultrasounds, as few as possible.

I am not sure, but I have known of some baby's being delivered earlier if it is thought that the baby will thrive better outside of the womb.  I would just keep eating healthy.  I have a friend who gain no weight during pregnancy and her baby was healthy and well.  Good luck and please keep us posted.

This. Make sure you are eating as healthy as possible, too.

Are you small? that may be why the doc is so worried. I don't know if they will deliver or not. Hope everything goes smoothly

I've been measuring where I should, up until this last appointment. When I began the pregnancy, I weighed 110lbs. I now weigh 118.

I just went through this and i have some extra weight on me I am guessing she is just checking the u/s as a precaution to make sure baby is on track with growth... They sent me for an u/s baby was fine and now they just have me do weekly NST to monitor baby and fluid levels... If baby is below the 10% then they will weigh the options and look into all factors to possibly deliver or just keep close monitor (that is what my docs told me) GL mama

A 4lb baby at 34 weeks is pretty average.. I'm really not sure why they're worried. It seems like baby is running about half a pound behind average, but ultrasounds beyond the 20wk anatomy scan are notoriously inaccurate for measuring a baby's weight, since they can't accurately measure baby's muscle and fat.

My daughter had this and at 33 weeks pregnant she only weighed 1lb 10oz. She had completely stopped growing.

At this point is sounds more like he is being cautious. That seems about right as far as how much baby weighs at 34 wks. Try upping protein and water intake to get some weight gain going.
