MIL problems while thinking of baby names

Well, hubby and I haven't found out the sex of the baby, we're going to keep it a surprise. We decided to go ahead and come up with a boy name and a girl name that we liked.

We had no problem finding names we both agreed on, Chloe Jaelynn for a girl and Micah Brayden for a boy.

We are in love with both of the names!

Well, his mom doesn't love them. In fact, she said that she refuses to call our bundle of joy Jaelynn or Micah, which are the names the baby would go by (it is traditional in my family for a girl to be called by her middle name).

Is his mom overreacting or are these names as horrible as she says they are?

Sounds like a classic overreaction to me! It's just her way of trying to control a situation she has no control of to begin with. Boo on her, and I love the names you picked out! They're great! Good luck!!

I'm not crazy about the den names, I think they are over played.
That being said it is your kid your choice.

I also don't favor the names but it is your child. I personally don't tell anyone the name or sex. Just me and my fiance know. I don't need anyone bringing down a name we both liked, for the sake of being a control freak lol

I don't get Micah or Jaelynn being "over-played". I know so many babies born recently named Riley. I have 5 friends with little girls who used the name. I haven't heard of any Jaelynns... Micah is being used as a short form of Michael for DH's grandfather.

This is exactly why my MIL (or any of DH's family) doesn't know the names we have chosen.

We're not telling them that, the sex, or the day the c-section is scheduled because of the reactions she has had with our other two children and her reaction when she found out I was pregnant again.

This is exactly why I refuse to tell names BEFORE the birth :)  Too many people have stupid shit to say lol

We didn't tell everyone, but he is a mama's boy and wanted her opinion. He was expecting her to love the names, not hate them.

Name the kid what you want and MIL can either get over it or come up with nicknames . It isn't up to her to name your child but seems like she is the controlling type so in the future don't tell her anything unless you want her to for sure know lol.

And this would be why we don't share baby names until birth. Your names are fine. Your MIL is just being rude.
