How do you feel about expectant mother parking spaces??
Here's a few different views on the subject- what are yours??
-
The Stir: I'd
rather see a store focus on making the aisles wide enough and the
carts safe enough. Or better yet, if our society would like to provide a
more convenient situation for pregnant women, how about more flexible
work situations, better maternity leave, and health insurance that
actually covers our medical expenses?
- About.com: The proponents of so called stork parking or stroller parking, say that pregnant women, or women with small children need the convenience of these designated spots that are often very close to the door of stores. While not all stores or all cities have stork parking, those that do say that it's very popular.
- WebMD: .My feeling is that a pregnant woman who shouldn't be walking long distances should have a legitimate temporary handicapped placard.
I am so sorry you had to go through this mama! :'(

this post hit home to me... they dont have them just because, its harder for pregnant people to walk further... It's also for SAFETY! Pregnant woman are inevitably vulnerable because they will do or give anything to protect their baby.
»after shopping , I was walking back to my car and I was grabbed by a guy! He beat me and took my purse and left me on the pavement, bloody. I was 8 months pregnant with a little girl.. That creep stole my daughters life. He kicked my stomach so hard and so many times he stopped her heart from beating!! If I had a front of the store parking spot, that would not have happened to me. He was targeting pregnant woman, because of their vulnerability. It was tragic what me and my family went through.. And if a pregnant parking spot can make something like that less likely to happen or prevent it even once for someone else, then I think its worth it. There is not a day that goes by that im not haunted by what happened.
Just because they have them availible doesnt mean you HAVE to use them.. But I think there should be one or two there for pregnant mothers who would like to use them. After this incident several stores in my town put in an expectant mother parking spot.

I don't see the point. If a pregnant lady can't walk the distance of the parking lot to the store, she shouldn't be out shopping. Someone else should be doing it.
Not everyone has the option of someone else going to the store for them. I have a 2.5yr old, a 1 yr old and am 29 weeks pregnant and dealing with spd that makes it painful to walk any significant distance. We try to do most of the shopping when my fiance is home to help me, but he drives a semi and is gone 2+ weeks at a time. So if we need something while he is gone, I have to go and take the kids with me. When I can find those spots it means I have to walk less, which means it hurts just a little less to get what I need to take care of my kids. If you don't need them, or have the luxury of someone else doing your shopping for you whenever you need something, that is great. But not everyone has that option.

What really made me mad was at my appointment last week, some teen boy pulled into the last one of them when I was parking. He had no reason to be there, but he didnt care.
Other than that, I don't use them, but come July when it's 100 and I'm about to pop, they may be my best friend!
The back and they don't have anyone to help with carts anymore. (door greetErs sit on chairs inside now) but anyway the one that was out was being used by a guy that put a child thaT looked atleast one in it. ThaT kid was trying so hard to sit stRaight up.
Even hauling four kids, I still refuse to park in the close spots because I, too, feel like those should be saved for older people or those that are ill.
Quoting FebPenguins:I like them and use them at our local babies r us. Though I am not incapable of walking the distance. I absoulutely HATE seeing teenagers and other very healthy people who park in close spots. By the time I have spent walking the "big box" stores, (the only grocery stores around here) the last thing I want to do is walk across the parking lot too!
