I totally felt that way before bringing ds1 home. In fact, when they let us go from the hospital dh and I sort of just looked at eachother like "They're really letting us take this kid home? We dont know what we're doing!" lol

But your instincts kick in. You somehow just know what baby needs. And you WILL make mistakes I'm sure. It's part of parenting! Live and learn!

You'll do great! And of course, if you ever have any questions, we're here! :)

I think everyone has these feeling with their first....You will be fine, most women have a motherly instinct and it will kick in. If not there are plenty of mom's with experience that can help you here and I am sure you know other mom's in your area....plus there is always the pediatrician.....you will be just fine : )

you won't know how to do some things. you are going to do some things wrong. THAT'S JUST A PART OF IT! we all were first time mommy's- you'll do great!!!!!!! stick to your instincts, but do your research. you make the best decisions for you baby!

thanks for the reassurance ... ive watched my younger nephews when they were really little, but i dont think anything prepares you mentally and emotionally for your own..

I think most first time moms feel like that, even if they have taken care of other peoples kids before. Your instincts will kick in soon and you may do a few small things wrong (my hubby kept putting diapers on backward on our first son lol)

I'm sure you have a family memeber or friend who has had children that you could ask if you have any questions or your peds office will be able to help you.

Best of luck to you!

1 mom liked this

Do you have other Mom's or your own Mom or Grandma you can call and get advice from when you aren't sure on things? I'm sure you will have questions. But it isn't as complicated as it seems. There is always the babies group too. You can ask your questions 24/7 and get help. You won't be alone in being a new Mom, and you will have your Husband to help you too.

What have you done to prepare for labor? For me, knowing what to expect, what's normal and what's not in labor, is really helpful to keep me from being afraid during labor. It also helped to take a birthing class and research coping methods for pain. When you can go into labor feeling really prepared, it won't be so scary. And you will be able to make the best decisions for you and your baby.

i havent done anything to prepare for labor. i mean what should i be doing?.. i know i want to wait as long as possible to get an epidural, but i do want one for sure.. ive been exercising and stretching.. i know the details of what will happen in the labor room. i was in the room when my sister had her boy..

i know every pregnancy is different and mine might not be like that, but i already know somewhat on what to expect.bu t i was never expecting to go through this myself..

You should really take a birthing class then. It's one thing to witness birth, but very different to feel everything. There are different steps and phases of labor that will feel different and cause your body to do different things. And if you are going to make it very long without an epidural, you will need to be able to cope with the pain.
