Thoughts on Breastfeeding while Pregnant?

I am still breastfeeding my daughter and I am in my first trimester of pregnancy (usually around 3-4 times per day). My doctor told me to take 2 prenatals per day, but that is all she had to say about it. I have heard conflicting opinions on this topic, any thoughts? Pros/Cons? Thanks!

I agree! I have noticed that I have become more, well, sensitive... and it's almost starting to hurt.

The only con I have heard and had myself is it gets more painful the further into your pregnancy you go. I stopped breastfeeding my son when I was 12wks, it just started hurting too much. I would just keep an eye on the cramps it causes too.

Do not stop or lower you prenatal inatke unless you get a second opinion. I am not bf and my doctor prescribe 2 prenatals. I realized when it was time to pay at the pharmacy and the technichina said that he hed prescribe 2 complimentary prenatal - one is lacking what theotherone has - so I wasn't taking double of anything. I asked my doctor anyways and he said that it is due to my medical plan. I get a lower deductible that way.

If you are taking 2 of the same then a second opinion won't hurt. But have in mind that our bodies will eliminate most excess of vitamins and mineral in our urine; so unless your urine smells like medicine you should be ok.

Thanks all - 2 prenatals scared me a bit because I didn't want to OD on Iron or something lol. I might get a second opinion.

I thought that it hurt, pretty badly sometimes--   enough to use labor coping techniques.      But not badly enough to warrant weaning.    That is too important.

GL!

1 mom liked this
I've BF through my entire pregnancies up until the last month for my last 4, counting this one.

The only issue I've had is there was a point with each one where bfing was a nails on the chalk board feeling through my entire body. It triggered anger, but I endured, and it passed. :)

I nursed through 12 weeks of this pregnancy and my last... I have always heard it is safe. I was starving though and sick from being hungry... Our family doctor said he had a patient currently nursing three children so she tandemed nursed all three, nursed two while pregnant. I think if you are going to miscarry you are going to regardless...

I don't know that you need 2 prenatals. You just need to make sure you are getting enough folic acid.

If it were me, i'd just take really good vitamins (Rainbow Lite or Light, can't remember the exact name) but i'd take the regular amount. If I felt like my iron was low or something else like that, i'd have it tested and go from there. I'd just take the regular amount of vitamins and would make sure to eat clean/healthy foods.
