I'm a new CafeMom member, and a new mother... I just found out this past week that not only am I pregnant for the first time, but I'm carrying twins (likely fraternal).

I only had about 48 hours to get used to the idea of an unplanned pregnancy pre-marriage, and now TWINS???

Anyone out there that had a similar situation... unplanned twins... or anyone at all really, if you have any wisdom to share I would be ever grateful. I am fluctuating between being stunned one minute and totally freaking out the next. How does anyone handle TWO babies when they weren't planning for one?

I should note that I will proceed with the pregnancy and will not terminate or adopt out. My boyfriend is on board with it and is getting excited himself but... I need HELP!

Hmmm maybe there's a support group you can get into for twin pregnancies?
I only had one baby. I don't think many ppl really plan for twins, most are taking by surprise!

It's most definitely a surprise. I love them already, and I can't wait to meet them, but I'm terrified of failling them.

Well first of all your motherly instinct will kick in and you will be just fine : ) I have never had twins but I have had babies that are close together in age(I know it's not exactly the same). I also have seven kids so it is always busy. I know it is hard to do but try to relax and gather up some resources around where you live...there are a lot of classes you could take and maybe they will ease your mind : ) Good Luck and Congrats : )

Sounds overwhelming. But exciting!!! Lots of people would love to have twins. Everyone I know who has had twins has loved it! Even if they hadn't originally wanted to have twins. Give it time and I bet you will find yourself ecstatic. :)

Congratulations!

Good news is this will be your normal. Since you don't have any other children, your normal will be with two little ones. You CAN do this. When they get here you will figure it all out. Try to relax, take some parenting classes so you feel more prepared. Take a breastfeeding class and start going to La Leche League meetings in your area. They will be a great resource for you and will be able to answer so many of your questions. You don't have to wait until your babies are born to go, or even until you are farther along. You can start going right away. In my opinion, education is key. The more you know, the more confident you'll be. Hang in there. The shock will wear off and you'll do great!

I have fraternal twins girls and they're going to be 1 year next month. So far is the most incredible experience I ever had and from the day a got pregnant. Twins runs in my family, my dad is a fraternal as well but I never imagined that it was going to be me the next one :) In my case, I live in the U.S. and all my family don't, the only people that are helping me is my husband, MIL and my 5 year old girl hehe, she love her sisters and play with them all the time. At the beggining, when they are newborns, is going to be a tired moment at nights but just set the right times to go to sleep and while they're growing they won't going to get up too much and you'll have the oportunity to rest more.
You'll be fine mommy, I promise and like the ladies said there are support groups, here is one that is call moms who had or have twins...something like this...they'll help you in everything :)
Congratulations and have a healthy pregnancy. Take lots of care!!! Blessings.

Congrats Mamma! I have no advice but I am 13 weeks tomorrow and we are suspecting twins may be a possibility due to my measurements. I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and we will schedule an ultrasound to find out. I'm kinda freaking out myself but know we will be ok if it is. You'll do great, just look for support and take any help offered. Good luck and best wishes.
