*** i dont like the way hospitals handle birth.***
i think everyone who is considering a hospital birth with an obgyn should watch the documentary "the business of being born". i was completely convinced within the first 10 mins that the best thing for any woman to do, other than in high risk situations, is go to a midwife instead of an obgyn. theres no way in hell i will see a dr for this birth or any birth i may have in the future.
Unfortunately, I'm not going to get the homebirth I was hoping for unless I go about it unassisted (which hubby is extremely uncomfortable with, considering his own birth). Midwifery is illegal here and more expensive than we can afford. So the hospital is my best option. Luckily I know my rights as a patient and as a mother and I won't be bullied into any of their "routine practices".
there is also a few downfalls to having an in home birth with a midwife too, not just in a hospital
What you need to understand is, just like EVERYTHING ELSE out there, that movie was very one sided. I agree that women SHOULD take more control of their pregnancies/labor/birth/etc, BUT, I also believe that not all OBGYN's/hospitals are horrible. With DD1 and 2 I had the same doc (in the end of DD1's anyway, I didn't start off with her but switched to her towards the end) and she was amazing. With DD3 I had a midwife in the hospital (post) and I could've totally gone the OBGYN direction because my midwife TOTALLY missed all my pre-e signs, even though I constantly asked and was worried about them. They were dismissed from day one until things got "out of hand" but thankfully they didn't get any worse. With DD4, though, I had a midwife that was absolutely amazing, a hospital birth (with a diff midwife, though) that was great, and I'll be doing the same thing again this time (and seeing the same midwife).
Mothers need to choose the right direction for them. Not what some video wants u to see.
Personally I love my hospital births. I had an amazing doc, amazing nurses and great support from them all. They never done anything out of the way and made sure it was exactly what I wanted.
Not all OBs and hospitals are anti natural birth.
No thanks. I'm stuck with C-sections for all future pregnancies. I don't think doing that at home is a good idea.
This was pretty much my story as well. I wanted a homebirth with all three of mine, but there were no midwives in my area to deliver me and my husband wasn't comfortable doing it unassisted.

Well that's one way to look at it.

There are also OBs that are like midwives and midwives who are like OBs. The OB supervising my care is an absolute doll, he is so caring and confident that his patients can go naturally. My midwife is great too, just crunchy enough and she gets to know her patients so well. The other midwife under his supervision, not so much. She is cold and brisk and I just don't like her at all, far more clinical than the OB.
