water breaking vs peeing on yourself

What are the differences. I know its not the same thing obviously, but how can you tell your water broke and know for sure you didnt just pee. I sat down yesterday and i believe i peed on myself. I didnt feel like i had to pee or anything it just came out. My mother told me with my brother her water broke a week before he was born, she had no idea, she just thought she had peed herself. So for woman who have experienced their water breaking on its own....how did you know? With my ds it happened at the hospital and it was a huge gush, but i hear woman say their water had a slow leak, if i had a slow leak i dont think id know, lol

I thought I was peeing myself LOL, so I went and sat on the toilet and it just would not stop.  After a slow leak for 30 minutes I knew my water broke.

Mine is was in the bathroom in the hospital and was peeing stood up and more came out and I thought I must not be done sat back down on the toilet thought i was done some more came out sat back down yelled for my ex SO her told me to pull the cord next to me I did and I guess it was the emergency cord so like 9 people ran into my room it leaked off and on for the next hour or so I would say that if you don't feel like you need to pee and liquid is coming out even though you are not peeing it's your water breaking and you might want to get checked Good Luck

My water only broke naturally with my second child. There was no denying the fact that it was my water breaking - there wasn't a doubt in my mind. I don't know how to explain it, I just knew the difference. Maybe because, for me, it was a large GUSH and not a stream like pee would be.

Mine was a tine gush, there wasn't a whole lot. The nurses told me if I'm not sure to put on a pad and look at the color and/or smell it. Pee smells amoniaish and amniotic fluid smells sweet.

OMG!  I just got off the phone with my OB's office about this.  They left it up to me, and now I am trying to decide if I want to go to L&D when my husband gets here.

The fluid that came out did not smell like pee AT ALL, which made me worry that it was amniotic fluid.  However, I took a long bath about 30-45 minutes before, so I am wondering if some water got trapped up in there and leaked out when I sat down.  Is that even possible?

My was a gush all 3 times, once before contractions, once in the middle and once just before pushing,
You can try doing the twist and see if more leaks out or lay down, often time the babies head is a cork and stops flow when you stand.

Nothing to be worried about, don't put anything in your vagina and wait for labor to start..
Good luck

If you try to stop it or push more out, it doesn't work. You can't control it. Feels like you are peeing and can't stop. I had a slow leak.

Put on a pad.

And if the pad is wet through then that is a slow leak...

And amniotic fluid does not have a smell...

I was leaking fluid for 2-3 days before I was told it was amniotic fluid.
