I'm going to try and ask this question as calmly and nicley as possible...
Why in the world would someone get a new puppy, weeks before their baby is due?
I mean, I've seen 3 first time moms do this now... I cant imagine being up with night time feeding, diapers, comforting my crying newborn AND dealing with a puppy.
Am I missing something? Lol
For our family we don't have pets yet, and wont for quite some time. (Even thought we would LOOOVE a dog lol) With DH being in the Military, always moving, and 2 kids its just a little much for me. Plus dogs are expensive after a while. 2 boxes of diapers AND dog food?! ![]()
I personally wouldn't want to introduce a pet to the mix when a baby would be arriving shortly. I am 30 weeks pregnant and spend my days cleaning up after a 2 yr old (who isn't overly fond of the dog we have) and making sure she doesn't have accidents. I'd have to be crazy to want to add a puppy to our family at this time.
Exactly... My friend is 33 weeks with her first and just got a puppy... A little boy puppy... I think its crazy!

I don't know. I get wanting to get a dog, some people just don't feel a family is complete without one, but the timing is crazy. Expense and hassle aside I'd want the dog to have more time to settle in before introducing a baby to the mix or get the dog after the baby arrives. Introducing a new pack member just after introducing the dog to your pack is asking for trouble.
because some people CAN and they can handle it (and others just don't know what they're getting into). I have 4 children (12, almost 11, 7 & 9 months) and 2 dogs (almost 9 & almost 5), 2 cats and 2 snakes AND my husband is in the military as well. Not to mention I've fostered quite a few puppies & adult dogs for a few weeks at a time. Now I know not everyone can handle this large of a load but we can so why not.
To me it seems crazy though and all of the ones so far I've seen her rid of the dog later :/
And you're awsome, just saying! Lol

people seem to forget that this world is like - 65% dumbasses. at least.
I don't think it was bad, at all. I was just careful about putting my son on the floor sometimes because the puppy was around 120lbs and super clumsy by 8 months LOL
We have two cats, one dog (one passed away), and we got a 2 year old bunny off of Facebook 5 months ago. Baby #4 could be here any day :)
Oh, and we cloth diaper- so spending $400 a month on pet food probably isn't that big of a deal.
I don't know. I think it's the practice for the baby. I refuse to get a dog until my kids are old enough to help with it's care. My husband is on my nerves about wanting a damn dog. Like you we're military. He deploys every other year. I don't want to deal with the kids and a dog.
When I was 30 weeks pregnant with my twins we got a puppy from the shelter. Why? I have no idea. It just felt right. I was home all day and probably lonely. He got hit by a car, while my husband was walking him( he bolted and snapped the retractable leash) and died. It was so sad. We did not get another dog. We waited for a few years before we got another. I realized after birth that I didn't want another.
I agree, I'm the only one here most of the time because my husband works long hours. I have the kids to deal with let alone a new puppy. I just know the older kids would neglect a dog and I'd be stuck taking care of the dog. My oldest son is 11 and he whimpers about wanting a dog.
