Has anyone had a failed induction?

Posted by   + Show Post
On January 22 I went in to be induced ( I was 41 weeks at this time) They skipped the cytotec because I was already having regular contractions when I got to the hospital even though I had no idea I was having them. I was also 1 cm dilated and my cervix was not softened ay all when I got there. They started me on pitocin and kept asking me if I was feeling my contractions and I said no. They got to where they were at the max amount of pitocin they could give me and I was just barely feeling my contractions. They were pretty stunned and checked me again but I was still only 1 cm and not softened or as they would say "2 long" after 11 hours of pitocin and no changes they decided to send me home. They will be trying to induce me again at 42 weeks. Has anyone ever had pitocin and not feel their contractions very much ? Also did you go to get induced a second time and did it work? I'm pretty sure of it doesn't work this second time I will be getting a cesarean. The crazy thing was that I went home in no pain but a couple hours later I went to get off my couch and when I put any kind of pressure on my right leg it would send terrible pain through my hip and lower back and I couldn't even walk. Luckily I can walk now but still painful when I do. I know this sounds terrible but I really don't want to try the pitocin again I feel so mentally and physically drained that cesarean is starting to look like a good idea sometimes which is crazy cuz I never wanted a cesarean. I also don't want to have an epidural. Sorry for typing so much just really emotional and confused.

Not personally but I have a friend who had one and later went into labor on her own a few days later.

This, the day you had sex doesn't mean it's the day you conceived.

The last time my husband and I had sex was June 3rd, I didn't ovulate until the 6th, so there's no way I would have gotten pregnant before the 6th.  We still got pregnant though, even though he left for South Korea.  I felt implantation 7 days after the 6th, and got my first positive at 9DPO.

I've never had an induction stopped, but my only induction was done for medical reasons.  I'd just try and be patient, if there's no real reason to induce at the moment.

OH and remember, sperm can live up there for five days! So, you could be off by five days, meaning you ovulated towards the end of the time that the swimmers would have been about to die and one caugt that egg! If that is the case, that you actually conceived five days after sex, then you are only three days away outside of your guess date and have plenty of time!

When I was induced it took about 8 hours of pitocin before my body kicked in and I started feeling contractions. Then we turned off the pit and I labored for 8 hours on my own.

The induction didn't work because your body isn't ready. It's still fighting to keep baby in. If baby isn't showing any signs of stress, and you don't have a medical reason to induce, I would just wait it out and do regular NST's and ultrasounds. You should also see a chiropractor, that can help the pain you are having. Is baby low and head down?

Baby is very low and head down. I talked to my midwife about not being induced and just waiting it out but she said it would be a bad idea to go past 42 weeks and there could be a lot of risks to the baby's health. I was able to make a last minute appointment to have an ultrasound to check my.amniotic fluid o now I am just waiting for that

YOu have no idea how lucky you are that they didn't give you cytotec.

Count your blessings, mama.

You can still turn down an induction or cesarean if you don't want it. If baby and placenta look healthy on the ultrasound, there's no reason to force baby out. 42 weeks isn't a magic number- those "health risks" of being past 42 weeks are no different than the risks of pregnancies at 37, 38, 39, 40 weeks.

What state are you in?  I've been induced with both of my boys and it they were successful.... They should be doing non-stress test on you like one of the ladies said.... Once i turn 32 wks I will do non-stress test twice a week and a BPP once a week because of me being diabetic.... They used the cytotec when I got induced with Logan and it worked awesome.....  Hope they figure something out for you soon...

Well got my ultrasound done and looks like baby is 8 pounds 12 ounces. The doc seemed worried about the levels of amniotic fluid because they looked low but then he found an extra pocket of fluid up by her feet and he said it looks good for now but stressed that we should not go past 42 weeks. I am not going to do whatever it takes to get her out by 42 weeks because I really don't want to risk her health
