Hi all,
I am 27, expecting baby #1 after long term TTC and we coulcnt be more excited. I am now week 14.5!
However, yesterday, we got test results back that there is a high chance my baby will have down syndrome and the dr thinks we should do the amnio teat.I literally spent the day crying. I am sooo nervous for so many reasons- what if the test goes wrong and we lose the baby? what if results come back positive and we have to face the decision of what to do? i cant iagine aborting after all this time and am so scared it will take anoither 2 torterous to get pregs!
Has anyone ever done this test? if so, please share your experiences. I dont know anyone who's done it...
You don't have to do the test. And even if baby did have down syndrome, you wouldn't have to do anything. Just love and raise your baby. So why add the risks of losing the baby or infection and go through the pain of having the amnio?
I was suppose to do it because the doctor said "your child has downs im sorry" Well i didnt do that amnio and at 21 weeks had an ultrasound and there was NOTHING wrong. My baby had alot of fluid on the back of his neck and head. The doctor who told me that made me worry for nothing and i heard its VERY common to have that happen and the baby turn out fine because all in all they still have a LONG time to cook! GL hunnie. I didnt do the test and it paid off but i dont know why your doctor said it has downs. Imagine if i had aborted at 13 weeks and now knowing hes healthy. Imagine if i had done an abortion i would have killed a healthy innocent kid. Here he is born Jan 3rd and healthy for 3 weeks early. He was 5lb 8oz and nothing wrong at all.
.
I personally wouldn't get the amnio and risk the health to my baby. But Downs to me isn't something I would be extremely distressed about either. I have worked around many Downs kids and they are AWESOME children. I don't know your beliefs, I personally wouldn't do the amnio, because I wouldn't want the risk, and I wouldn't abort anyway, so what does it really matter! But that is just me. Good Luck
I wouldn't even bother with the amnio and just deal with the issue when baby arrives. GL.
I would only do it, if I seriously would abort. Why take such a heavy risk of miscarriaging a baby you have tried so hard for, if you would not end his or her life if it does have Downs, you know? That takes the risk of losing perfectly healthy child, too.
I had it done. I would not have kept a baby with DS. So the risk was worth it to me. After all the scare, everything ended up fine. Only do it, if you would consider terminating the pregnancy....otherwise it doesn't matter if the baby has DS or not.
The test itself wasn't so bad. It hurt a little when the needle went it - I mean it's a big needle, but I didn't have any cramping afterwards. They recommend bed rest for a day so that you heal up properly. That was probably the best thing about it. A whole day of bed rest! haha.
Is this the blood test that gives you the chance that your baby may have something? its not very reliable. Personallly i would not do the amnio because i wouldnt abort anyway, i would do a week US to check things out just to be prepared
im 16 weeks and just got my results back stating im positive for baby having down sydrome because of me being 35 years old. im not doing the amnio due to the risks.... im going to talk to the speacialist and then do the ultrasound he will give me but that is it i will love the baby no matter what
