Question about the Placenta taking over?

So, this is my first pregnancy and I am still learning as I go but I was just wondering. I went to the doctor yesterday and had a sonogram. My bean is doing well with a heartbeat of 141..i actually got to hear it and not just see it. But she mentioned that the sac is gone and the placenta has completely taken over.  She also mentioned that my chances of M/c has went way down. So I guess I am just curious to know if the chances have went down because the placenta has completely taken over or because I am at 14 weeks? I know M/C can happen but I am not thinking about horror stories just curious about why the odds go down. She did not really elaborate on it.

You are 14 weeks, which is officially the second trimester :)
The risk goes down substantially after the first trimester for many reasons.

The placenta is more reliable than the sac. It also gives more nutrients as needed as your baby grows.
